hey guys, i got a monster tach and i cant find a signal wire, i got it on one of the coil wires and it dosent really work the needle idles very irradically and goes about 2hundred rpm and drops back down and dosent follow the real rpm, please help!!!! I NEED A SIGNAL WIRE sombody has had to put a tach on a lincoln.

What year?

If you have a 93-96, you *should* be able to set the tach to 8cylinder mode, and splice the signal wire right in with the factory tach signal from the PCM/EDIS (no EDIS module on 96, doesn't matter though) to the FACTORY tachometer in the cluster. It's a TN/Y wire.

If you have a 97-98, you'll need a tach adapter. The factory tachometer uses the SCP databus/ multiplex network, and you can't tap a single COP for tach signal.

Best bet even if it is a 93-95 is to get the tach adapter and save yourself the headache.....been there done that already, buy the tach adapter.

so we all know now, i got it to work, the icm(ignition control module) under the driverside shock tower has the 4 coil driver outputs to the coil packs- 2 on each coil- and if you splice into any one of them it will work i used the tan/orange wire, the tan/yellow wire has no signal, because the stock signal is actually used for more than one purpose like more than one gauge, so the aftermarket tach dosent know how to read the signal, that is what i thought to begin with. but it works and i tapped into the light that surounds the ciggaret lighter so it works with the auto headlights and works with the dimmer switch too, but thanks alot guys, i put up some pictures of how i mounted it , that was a bitch!!

By the way i have a '93 black on black bought it w/80,000
