Dealer wants to reprogram the PCM after changing 2 coil packs. Is it necessary? If so, cost and what does it do?

Why? did they say, It may be a factory recall kinda thing and they just want to do it while the car is there.

Right. A PCM reflash is not needed just for swapping a couple coils. But if they're doing it for free, what the hell, right?

I replaced all 8 of my coils in three seperate tries. Never needed to flash the PCM. But if it's free, why not?

think of it as an update to the latest version of software. There are usually many little tweaks to the PCM code as the car is in Production for a number of years. If your car is stock, then this probably a good thing, as the tweaks usually address issues/complaints found after your car was already out in the world.

I wonder if there were improvements made to transmission line pressure for a bit more positive shifting?

Dealer was charging for it. They wanted to clean the TB and fuel injectors along with the PCM update for about $300.00.

Sounds like a scam to me. Don't do it. My dealership did the reflash for free because they got a TSB about it. They called me up and said that next time I brought it in that they would reflash it and next time I went in for an oil change they did the reflash for free.

Cool. I will mention it to the service tech on the next oil change.
