The passenger window on my 90 Mark VII is now stuck all the way down. I've owned the car now 6 mos. and it has worked reliably up to this point, although it was a bit louder than the driver's side. I saw a thread from MD-82 in May with the same problem- when the button is pushed, the lights dim a bit and there's a slight noise where you can hear the motor pushing but the window stays put. The thread I refer to entailed taking the motor out after taking the door almost completely apart, which is way out of my league. I have the panel off and have tried WD-40, yelling at it and hitting it. I guess at this point I may as well admit that this worked briefly earlier today- randomly, the switch just worked once, and I had it going up and down (though not all the way down) as good as ever. Then to prove to myself that the problem had been fixed I tried putting it all the way down. :slam So I'm an idiot. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your 13 or so year old window motor is in the same catagory. There's MANY articles on the proper way to repair this with three hand tools and a drill. Seriously. If you have full use of both hands, it shouldn't be too hard of a task. Also, the smaller your hands the better for this job. Search here and on the web for [lincoln mark VII window motor replace tech article] sans the brackets.

Rich(mespock) gives good directions in this thread... Just replace those old eaten-up plastic bearings with metal one's. It's an easy job.
Thanks. The motor worked once I gave it a few taps with a screwdriver and works fine now, provided it isn't rolled completely down. This I take to mean that it is about time for a new motor, or else the mechanism is just stuck at the very end. I may just have it looked at.
