I ordered two Motorcraft O2 sensors, part # F5MZ9F472AA or DY761. When I took it to the shop, they said these were the wrong sensors. Is that true, or do they have no clue what they're talking about? I'm trying to replace the pre-cat O2 sensors on my 97.

clicky

MOTORCRAFT Part # DY761 {#F5MF9F472AA, F5MZ9F472AA}
F5MF-9F472AA; Front

MOTORCRAFT Part # DY1086 {#F6DZ9G444AA}
F6DF-9G444AA; 2 required per vehicle; Rear

Is the F5MF-9F472AA the same as the F5MZ-9F472AA?

Why does one have the F and one has the Z after the F5M?

I thought that might be it at first, but the one for the rear has a totally different part # F6DF-9G444AA. Ugh, my gut tells me it's the right sensor and the shop is just misinformed. This is the same shop that told me they didn't replace the fuel filter because they couldn't find it... :rolleyes:

The f5m"F"-9f472-aa is an engineering number that sometimes can be used to identify the correct PART number.
The 9g444 is the cat monitor (rear O2's)...9f472 are the O2 (front) sensors.
Almost all ford part numbers have a "Z" in the 4th position any other number/letter is an engineering number for reference only. F5MZ-9F472-AA is the correct "part" number for that engineering number you have.
