so i have a 98 LSC CE in pearl white, and i've noticed that the bumpers in the front and the back are chipped and just ugly looking at some options on what to do. would painting it my self really save any money???
If you paint it yourself the color match will be so far off if wont even be funny. Take it to someone who is VERY fimiliar with 3 stage paint, such as a cadillac or buick dealer. There are more pearl colors on those cars than any other manufacturer I think.
When I bought my car three years ago, the front bumper looked ok. After about a year the paint started lifting from rock chips and just got worse and worse until it was coming off in 3 inch sheets. It looks bad now. Can paint shops really match it well?
taking your bumper off is the most i would do. any good shop will want to do there own prep work anyway. You can normally get a decent match on the bumpers...the front anyway cause there isn't that much that fits up to the fenders and there is alot of flip in the ivory pearl. Any decent body shop should be able to do it without to much trouble. They do suck though...just happens to be part of the game.
No, Please do not take the bumper off, or do any of the prep work. Urathane(sp) are extremly hard enough to match with day 1 paint. you will have to take the car to them.
and I mean day1 matching because goto your local Caddilac dealer and look at the bumpers 100% of them dont match.
