i want to paint both front and rear chrome parts (not sure what they are called) what options do i have? I was thinking i could just buy some spray paint but will it last? should i sand off the chrome first?

how can i pull these parts off? do i have to take off the bumpers?

Not sure how the trim pieces come off, but you will want to scuff them up and use primer before painting.

Be sure to scuff ALL the chrome, and use enough self etching primer, and enough clear coat.
I learned the hard way lol. My grille is ugly right now lol

I'm pretty sure you have to take the bumper off and bend the clips back that are holding them on.

Rough it up, spray it with self-etching primer, then paint it.

1.sand off the chrome using sand paper

what grit?

2.spray it with self-etching primer

does this come in a spray can? never-mind stupid question

3.paint it

with what? spray paint can? or home paint like what you use for walls

this is my first time doing something like this so i have no idea

what kind of black paint metallic black?

Make sure you use adhesion promoter too. You can get all the supplies at your local parts store for around $35.

You sir are correct.

when do i use the adhesion promoter before prime and paint after sanding ?

Multiply that by 3x in Canada.

Steps (just what I did)
1. Sand (400,600,800 grit)
2. Clean
3. Adhesion promoter (2-3 coats)
4. Primer (3-4 coats)
5. Wet sand (1000 grit)
6. Paint (3-6 coats, I use duplicolor colormatch from the parts store)
7. Wet sand again (1500 grit)
8. Clear (3-6 coats)

you'd want to sand the chrome enough to make it 'dull', don't worry about sanding the chrome right off.

pay close attention to the sharp edges, besides the shiny flat areas this will likely be where it peels first if not done properly.

clean it with IPA (rubbing alcohol, not pale ale)

make sure primer, paint, and clear coat types of paint are compatible.

Some types don't need to dry between coats. follow instructions on label. resist doing a single thick coat, do multiple thin coats (again most of this stuff is on the label)

good luck and post pics when done

Thank you

i wont get started right away but i will get it done eventually and i will post pictures for sure when i'm done
