Ok well as some of you may know. I got ahold of a 96 lsc to use the bumpers. The car had been repainted and im in the process of removing the second layer of primer and paint. So far I have the front bumper stripped down to the factory paint. Im using a product by SEM called bumper stripper. It gets the new paint off fairly well. Although, the directions include that it will NOT strip the oem baked on finish. Will it be ok if prepped properly to paint over the factory paint? And if not, what alternative stripping method can I use in order to get rid of the factory paint?

I have left the factory paint before - if it 's OK and there are no cracks.
Make sure you use an appropriate 'flex' agent so the new paint wont crack when the plastic bends or flexes.

If there is any amount of checking or cracking you will have to sand by hand.

Any chem stripper strong enough will warp or eat away the bumper.

Should a nice hand sanding be good enough for pre primering? Any suggestions on what primer I should use, also what brand/type along with paint?
