1. this may be a dumb question.. but i bought my ls used, so how do i knwo if its a v8 sport or premium sport? its an 03 and has every option possible except the wood grain but i think the nickel looks way better anyway.

2. also my car shifts a bit...rough. ive searched on here and read some problems ppl had and ive also read some road tests when they were new. it seems the transmission even when new is a bit indecisive at times which mine is...should i be worried about this rough shifting or is it just the sport coming out in my car?

How can you know if it has every possible option and not know if it is sport or premium? (no wood = not premium, AFAIK)

Is there any chrome on the bumpers?
Rear park assist?
Navigation?
Heated rear seats?
heated and cooled front seats?
Memory pedals?
Auto dim rear and side view mirror?
Folding mirrors?
Moon roof?
Appearance packages?
Wheels?
Advance Trac or just traction control?
Engine oil cooler?
Tri-coat paint?
Cell phone?

When you shift to reverse, does it engage harshly? (bad solenoid if so) Was the transmission fluid additive added when that TSB came out?

speaking of shifting into reverse harshly, mine does that, very harshly. So its a solenoid problem?

it def does shift harshly into rev...what does it mean bad solenoid?
since i bought it used i dont know if tranny fluid additive was added... and i dont know what the tsb is..

what about a slight rough shift from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4...not so much 4-5 tho:S???

So, you do have most of the options, but not quite all of them. A Ford/Lincoln dealer can look up your VIN and tell you if it is premium or not. The Lincoln web site used to have a place for owner's to register that asked for your VIN. I don't know if they still do, or if it would tell you your options and package levels.

That's the solenoid valve assembly issue. Replacement at a dealer is about $700. You can do it yourself if you don't mind getting messy. For me at least, replacement completely cleared the problems up.

ok thanks a lot! i'll have to live with the jerking until i get some more money to fix it or look into doin it myself. i was afraid my tranny was goin or somehting..last thing i need is to have to replace the tranny!

I do not know if the solenoid problem causes any damage to the rest of the transmission. I assumed that it might, so I had it fixed when the problem because obvious.

Did you do it yourself?

What does the part cost?

How hard is it?

Anything special to look out for?

Too messy for me. I don't recall the split between labor and the part. Replacement of the fluid was part of the expense too.

Mine has the same exact shifting issue. It's been very harsh going in to reverse from drive, so I usually put it in neutral for a second or two and then into reverse and then it will engage normally.

This summer, my 2-3 & 3-4 shifts have become jerky. I had the transmission serviced and it seemed to be better but after 3 days it started up again. Sometimes it will even miss a shift all together, then other days it will shift nice and smooth which made me think it mght be an electronics issue.

I took it to a mechanic friend the other day and we checked the TPS in the hopes that it was sending a bad signal to the trans but everything checked out and there were no stored codes or anything.

So it sounds like I just need to order the solenoid valve assembly and get them changed out.
