Not having any problems but I scanned my 96 today and am getting P0605-PCM ROM error, whatever that means-it will not erase, any ideas?

usually THAT code means there is an aftermarket performance chip stuck in the J port.

the previous owner had a chip in it, but sold it when he sold me the car I didnt want it. like i said, it does not seem to affect it at all, i dont understand why i cant erase it-should i be on the lookout for a new "used" ecm? how much should one go for, or if i get the dealer to reflash, how much is that?

Ya... um why would ANYONE put a chip in a 96.. um... silly people.... (walks away with head down)....

How about you disconnect the battery for a while. I wonder if the chip was pulled with the PCM live. Heck, I've done it.

jeez, 'silly people' comments from the twins aside, is there a way to remove the code? I did watch him remove the panel by the driver's feet, undo and pull down the ECM and remove a small circuit board looking deal-so, gosh, I guess it is possible. He wanted an extra $150 for it, I didn't care, it is plenty fast enough for me, for now.
my scanner, which reads PIDS and also is CAN, OBD1 and OBD2 capable, cannot erase this code,-it is a powertrain code, I would think that it's probably something that is going to be an issue. Anyone (beside the post-whore twins) have any ideas about what a going ballpark price might be for a used ECM, or has anyone had their ECM re-flashed by a dealer? thank you.

Did you try disconnecting the battery for a while?

Yeah, I know unity.

Just didn't wanna say: ''Did you do what was previously suggested by unity'' for fear of looking like I was being smart.

I'll toughen up! :p

I suppose what I should have said was:

Well, did disconnecting the battery not work?

Ah well... :)

id say a pcm reflash "should" be about a hour labor, could be a little more being a 96 getting the tune could be a problem. maybe have them try and clear the code what scanner you got?
