I have a 2002 lincoln ls v-8 red with a small tear in the back seat.

And I scanned my car yesterday when the check engine light came on, and I got P0401, insufficent exhaust gas recirculation.

I'm not sure what this means.
Could it be the egr valve or O2 sensors, I have no idea. It runs just like it did with out the light on, same gas millage and all, but the light comes on after i delete the dtc.

Any clues would be appreciated. Also would have searched but I can only imagine how long that would have taken with our :q:q:q:qty search feature

Well, I'm pretty sure it's not related to the tear in the back seat.

It could be the valve, the valve solenoid, the vacuum supply to the valve, the DPFE sensor (common Ford issue), or a clogged tube.

A good cleaning of the related components would probably be a good thing to try first.

Yeah I know tear has nothing to do with it but its more of a joke, like all the :q:q:q:q autozone needs to know so they can tell you, nope we dont have that light bulb in stock.

I'm assuming I can find a diagram in the tech articles section?

First thing I would do is get a small piece of vacuum line and attach it to the egr valve while the engine is hot and idling. Then suck on the vacuum line quickly. You should notice a big difference in the idle, like the engine is going to die. If you don't then you have a bad egr valve.
