My uncle took his V6 Lincoln LS with around 180k to the dealership because it had a misfire and was running rough. He doesn't know if it was a random misfire or just in one cylinder and if so which one. The dealership charged him $800 to replace one coil :shifty: It ran fine for a couple days, but after that it started doing the same thing. He called the dealership back and they told him it probably needed another coil.

He brought it to me and the first thing I noticed was it was running VERY RICH and shook a little. I hooked my scanner up to it and seen it had a misfire in cyl #6. The upstream O2's are within spec so it's not either of those causing the rich condition.

What could be the problem?

Also it idles at around 1100 RPMS and the TPS stays at around 22-24%, is that normal for these engines?

Change all plugs and coils, not one. Get the visteons from ebay. Get the motorcraft OEM plugs. Do it yourself, its really simple. Plenty of write ups on here. Parts will only cost you around $225 in total. MAY take one - two hours max.

Are you sure that's what it is? Because he's on a tight budget.

No, it's not certain, that this will fix your problem. However, it is at least 90% likely that more of your coils are marginal, and the plugs have to be replaced when the coils are.
While you have the manifold off, you should look into replacing the PCV valve and plumbing.

I understand the budget issue, and I know that this doesn't sound nice... If you're tight on budget, the LS is not for you. There aren't many cheap fixes for the problems that it has. It may or may not have been cheap to buy, but it is not cheap to keep running.

Ok I'll do those things first.

Tell me about it. I've fixed this car numerous times and haven't liked doing any of it to be honest. He bought it new and now it has a dented up fender which he sanded with 80grit and spray bombed, 1 working window, and he thinks it's a Bentley.
