2002 v8 overheated, son has car about 100 mile away, with the engine off I could hear over the phone what I assume was the aux water pump screaming. From reading the threads sounds like the hyd. cooling fan is the problem in most cases, if it is the fan would changing out the hyd unit for an electric unit be a better choice then replacing the hyd. unit? Working on getting the car home tomorrow.

What you're hearing over the phone is probably the hydraulic fan. If it is, thats not your problem. If the engine is overheating and the fan kicks on high the fan is doing it's job. What most likely is happening is that there is a hairline leak somewhere.

in that case you are in luck! we've changed a few degas bottles over time here on LVC.

but ... as the degas bottle gets old so does the rest of the 90% plastic plumbing.
The fill neck cap has been known to seize stuck and if forced off will crumble/crack the stat housing.
Other plastics or ends simply deteriorate and become brittle. 10yr+ hot engine parts, not supposed to last forever, it's plastic after all.

You can replace the reservoir/overflow/degas bottle and refill, bleed the system ... Maybe get lucky and be good for a bit but other cooling system part will fail.

Well replaced the coolant tank and while taking the cap off of the thermostat housing the housing crumble into a few pieces. The Jag aluminum housing is that from the 2002 Jag 4.0 liter?

so you can either listen to this, or have a car thats gonna break down on overheat all the time.

all of those plastic cooling parts have the same life span, so as one gets old a brittle enough to break like that, the rest are also in a similar condition...

Replace all plastic coolant plumbing.

this is where you want to do it all at once, instead of having to do it every month.

Told you so ...

YES, although I picked up the JAG stat housing from a 2000 for my 01 LS. (no difference, same part)

The JAG stat upgrade are only available for the first GEN LS (1999-2002) not for 2nd GEN's. (2003-2006)

ÜRO PARTS Part # NCE2247ADKIT

You'll be good with that one ... couple of notes, if you are going to order a new thermostat, you'll need to get the one for your 02 V8 and use it, do not obtain a thermostat for the JAG that belongs with that Aluminum housing kit. it's not rated the correct pressure for the LS.
Second note is there will be rubber rings provided with both the Lincoln thermostat and the Jaguar aluminum tstat housing, use the ones that came with the JAG but put the Lincoln thermostat in it. There will be a little guide pin nipple for alignment, it can only go in one way.

You've seen/read my Re&Re on the matter, anything further feel free to ask, contact me by PM if you want/need any PDF abstracts from the 1st GEN workshop manual.

Plan now is to replace all plastic now. Are the plastic parts easily available at your local parts store or is it better to order on line. Rubber hoses are going to be replaced also.

OEM parts my friend, do not fall for the cheaper DORMAN parts specially on the degas bottle as the thread design is weak on the DORMAN bottle will not hold cap on securely at 16psi.

Dealer for parts or online shopping, I guess from what I understand you guys in the USA are able to walk into other autozone (the likes) and get OEM parts, not sure. We Canadians go to dealership or order online and wait for delivery as it's still cheapest.

Rockauto is your friend but not limited to,

tascaparts.com (although I have a beef with them)
fordparts.com
fordpartsgiant.com
silverstatefordparts.com

Amazon and eBay

search by OEM part numbering on google for best price/options.

probably not going to find them in stock at most local parts stores, even dealers will probably have to order most of it.

when I did mine, I got all of the parts from either rockauto or fordpartsgiant.com (neither place had 100% of the parts and due to prices I got about half of the stuff from each...)

Not to hijack the OP thread but where can I buy the rubber seal that goes in the cap on the jag thermostat housing I opened mines up to fill it and the rubber gasket was stuck into the mouth of the engine filler.

If you have problems with the dorman cap that comes with the bottle. Go to advance and buy the Stant cap rated for 16 psi. It's a better fit and it does not have the clicking when it assumes the cap is tight. You can just about tighten the cap to the point you need vice grips to get it off. Trust me I learned the hard way. Lol
