i have a 93 mark 8 had it for about 2 months now yesterday it started overheating really bad coolant was all over the engine ,so i got all the air out of the system(i think) now when i drive it its fine for about a mile and a half then the temp shoots all the way up, stays there for about a mile then goes back down to normal. And also im losing coolant somewhere ,it was full now the resovoir is almost empty.any help would be appreciated. thanks

Guessing either fan it going out or water pump.

Turn the AC to MAX and the fan should kick in unless its really cold out.

For water pump, remove belt and spin by hand.

If both are fine, your reservoir tank cap may be bad. It happens.

While you are at it, check your oil filter adapter gasket for leaks too.

That and my oil pan are my next big jobs. (my adapter gasket blew out all of a sudden and was pissing out oil and coolant)

fan

checked the fan yesterday was working fine, anyone think it could be the t stat

That would be my first guess but you said you had fluid all over the engine so it's shooting out somewhere so what may be cause that may be causing the engine to over heat.

Fans are known to run for a while then die. Check often. Mine would cut in and out before complete fail. Before so if I spun it, it would not spin much.

Are you sure you bleed the system right... I only ask because the Mark's have a very different bleeding procedure....

I vote water pump....clean the motor and see were the leak is.
If its coming from up top....waterpump.
From the bottom...adapter gasket .
