Overheating problems---please help

i took the water pump off, checked the impeller, its fine. Im going to bled the system again and make sure i have a steady stream of coolant coming from the bleeder valve.

I mean the car can run without the auxillary pump, right?

The whole design of the coolant system is a bag of sh*t in my opinion. Its like they engineered the auxillary coolant pump into the system after the intial design to boost coolant to the core.

Your engine overheating. Note that the temperature gauge reads coolant temperature at one location. If there is air in the system, parts of the engine will overheat and what coolant is there will boil. This will also happen if the water pump impeller is shot.

You're over your head. Go to the dealer...

thanks for you help btw

i have never had any type of problem to bleed the coolant system on v8 ls's all u have to do is leave the cap off the tank remove the purge hose and leave the car running while you watch it once all the air is purged u close the hose and the tank.

On the gen 1 V8s there is a cap on top of the thermostat housing, when i empty a system for whatever reason (engine replacement, water pump, radiator replacement) I remove the plastic cap on the thermostat housing and i fill it w coolant right there, then i fill the tank with the cap off the thermostat housing and you pour till it start leaking. this should be the first thing you do to purge the air specially since u removed the water pump.

when u have air pockets inside the motor the metal parts get HOT, when coolant reaches this hot stops it boils, boiling coolant will increase pressure and blow the cap off the tank.
