so my car (2001 V6) started to over heat recently i had the coolant reservoir replaced and thought that would be the end of it. but it was still overheating. the fan blew but my mechanic said it is not blowing fast enough. so i took it to another place and they said the same thing. they said either the motor on the fan is going out or the pump is going out. they couldnt really tell which was going out. is there a way i can find out which is going out, and about how much would it cost for either or both?

It's expensive, You can replace both at the dealer and expect a $1200 to $1400 bill. The service manual says to use a power steering analyzer to determine if the PSI and GPM are high enough to drive the fan. I am tryign to locate one right now to test my car but not having much success. Even most of the dealers do not have them, they just replace both the pump and fan out of shear ignorance.

I would pm quik about this. I believe he has the answer you seek. I don't recall off hand, so I can't regurgitate the exact info.

im thinking about trading it in if i can get it under the cash for clunkers or if they offer me enough.
