my 4-channel amp blew last weekend on my 6 hour drive up to DC. crappy part was that the drive back was dead silent as the speakers werent getting juice. i took it to the place i got my stuff installed and they ran some tests and then told me my cap went bad and fried my amp. fair enough...it happens. well, as i was leaving the shop, the car does this thing out of nowhere. like, it was jumping around in gears trying to find one it liked (thats the best way i could describe it). i made it home fine. later that night i was going to get some sushi and it did it again...this time it died though...and gave me a "gear select data error" message on the dash. it wouldnt start back up....it would turn on but not turn over at all. i had it towed to the dealership. here i am 2 days later and they say theyre still running tests to figure out what it is. my bill seems to be around $300 already just for diagnostic tests alone. anyone have this problem before or have any ideas as to what it could be? could they have fried something at the audio shop while they were testing the cap/amp issue? thanks for the help. i love the car to death but this is getting a little old.

I was thinking that since these cars tend to be very picky with the batteries. I don't know what else to tell you except good luck and let us know when you find out. I'm sure someone will jump in with some more ideas though on where to look or expect.

yeah...today's day 3 IN THE SHOP so i think im going to have to start fussing a little. its getting kinda ridiculous.

ok. got my car back yesterday and it wasnt all as bad as i thought it was going to be. apparently it was a wiring issue. due to road vibrations and whatnot, a nut came loose in the trunk by the junction box, moving the wiring a bit and restricting the flow of juice up to the front of the car. they replaced the wiring there and found that the voltage still wasnt enough up front....after testing it, they found that the same thing had happenend by the fuse box under the dash. so they repaired the wiring there to and now its all fixed. thought you all wold like to know since you were probably as stumped as i was

Awesome that you got it fixed. What did they charge you for this? Seems like that would be a lot of diagnosis to finally figure that out.
