Ok: carpet/headliner samples**IN**.. more questions and pics *pics*

**** SAMPLES ARE IN **** PICS ARE UP ****

Here's the interior of the car right now. I'm lining the doors with some sound deadening material to try to keep the road noise down. The carpet I'm getting will have extra padding on the bottom so should be good enough to keep noise down.

My question mainly is about below the back seat and behind the back panels where the rear speakers are. I seem to hear a lot of noise from back there.

Has anyone put sound deadening under the pad in the back below the back seat? Anyone put deadening behind the rear panels?

Did it help? Did you use stick-on deadening or some type of foam like the stuff that's already there?

Thanks: Here's the way the car looks at the moment: ( i know it's dirty... I'm just getting back there)

.. and yes.. yes that is my headliner against the wall in the background.

The door goes 'thunk' when you close it now. No rattles, but I hope there is significant change in road-noise also. I did the passenger side and covered the INside sheetmetal also but thought that might be overkill so stuck to just the outside sheetmetal on the drivers door. (haven't cut the holes for the doorpanel yet. ;-) )

Nice work. I really don't get a lot of "road noise". Have you ever driven an 87 toyota p/u? They have plenty of road noise. lol

With the back seat removed, I placed a blanket of sound proof material across the back and bottom.
It does help with the sound and it was cheaper than the stick on type.

Dynomat! Although you could spend about $300 to get enough of it.

I used Great Stuff expanding foam. There were naysayers, but it held up fine. I sprayed in the the a-pillars, seat body support rails, etc. Just dont use too much (it expands a lot) and cover everything on the inside if you leave stuff in there. If it gets on the leather, it will not come off! Trust me! But the road noise was greatly reduced.

You may also want to consider picking up thicker sheets of rubber material. Just plain rubber. Then use 3M car interior spray adhesive to secure it down. Not as good as Dynomat, but works well. Especially for the doors.

Myco, where did you go to get your stuff to redo the interior?

A friend of mine (that I trust) spent some time researching this stuff called "instant Waterproof Repair Tape" by U.Seal that you can get at Home Depot. Apparently there was a product that audiophiles used to use instead of dynomatt at Home Depot but it was discontinued and this stuff is the 'replacement'.

He put it in his car and I saw the difference so I bought some myself. It's 6 inches by 25ft (I think) and it's 17$.

There are a couple kinds so be careful. You want the stuff with the aluminum backing like you see in my pictures.

I put it on the underside of the dash also. It's made for gutters/skylights/metal-roofs etc. so it should hold up fine under heat and not fall off.

They sell that stuff off amazon pretty cheap. I'll look into that thanks.

That water-proof stuff. If its what I am thinking of, is not a super good idea. Because its toxic. It been brought up on the Benz forums. Also dont use it for vertical surfaces, it will slide down apparently in hot weather areas.

Yea, that's what I'm afraid of. But 17$ isn't bad and worth a shot. We'll see.

I was afraid of smell also. Friend said he didn't smell anything. We'll see... don't know about the toxicity. Hmmm... good call. I'll need to look that up.

The rubber sheets w/ 3m spray adhesive is a good idea.

Yall are going to laugh but I have my fingers crossed.

The silver stuff is radiant barrier for attics left over from when I put it in my attic. The foam is the stuff you use to seal cracks in the house.. the expanding kind. The pink stuff is just a 4$ roll of foam.

Fingers crossed: LOL

FYI: the seal stuff talked about earlier in this thread is indeed a carcenogen.

I was stupid and took the word of a friend. But I'm letting you guys know so you can make an informed decision.

Glad that place worked out. When yopu do get the samples let us all know how it is and then maybe anyone else can order from them as well.

You should be ok as long as you don't eat to much of it

Sorry man :( If you are using is only under seats and such, it may be fine. I just would not use it on the doors. They get way too hot and that stuff will fume out. Even if you dont smell it, it may make ya sick.

Why bother at all haveing a hot rod is all about hearing everything that going on with the car if you want quite buy a ls

Samples came in:

Lets see if I can document this correctly:

There are 3 carpet pieces: Part numbers are 1068,1066,1097. From www.stockInteriors.com I didn't get the silver for some reason, I guess I thought it would be too light.
http://www.stockinteriors.com/CarpetColorUp.asp?Select=1&TypeId=10&HideACC=False

There are 4 headliner materials: http://www.stockinteriors.com/HeadlinerColorsUp.asp?Select=1&TypeId=8

They are part numbers: m1769,m2000,m2001,and m2005.

Here are pics of them inside the car and close-up of the quality. It feels very well produced. Headliner foam is close to 2mm in depth. Carpet is close to 1/4 in depth.

This is the 'plush' carpet on the site which is extra 50~. The one that looks to be a pretty close match to the carpet is 1066. The closest match to the headliner is m2000.

I'm playing with the idea of going with middle shade carpet with one of the darker headliner materials.

Anyway, thought I'd get this up here for you guys.

BTW: guys the sound deadening stuff I did didn't fix my problem though it did make a difference. It sounds like a wind tunnel in my car. I must have a bent door or something leaving a gap

You can take a dollar bill or paper and close it in the door every few inches and see if you can move it. That is how I find leaks. Well once I smoked a blunt and filled the car with smoke, but I had no one on the outside to tell me where the smoke was coming from.

I wanted to give you guys some real pics of these carpets. This is the base model type carpet.. not the plush carpet that are in the pics earlier.

You will notice a lack of 'footrest' a significant lack of insulation compared to the stock carpet. The material looks very good though.

Lots of pics. Here we go.
