i noticed that my car was leaking motor oil yesterday. so today i got under the car and noticed that a lot of the pan was wet with oil. i checked that the drain plug was tight and it was. i also checked the oil filter and that was also tight. so i'm thinking that it might be the oil pan gasket. would this be a correct assumption? i checked the top part of the engine and there was no oil up there so it's coming from down under. it really sucks because i just did the oil change this past weekend and if i do need to change that gasket it'll be a waste of royal purple and another 6 quarts . is it difficult to change and roughly how much is it? if i do need to change that out i will get the part from Max. i haven't had a lot of time to look under there since i'm heading off to work right now but i will check in more detail soon. thanks in advance here fellaz for your advice

Make sure that it's engine oil you are seeing.
I recently changed the oil on my 04 and noticed that the left side of the oil pan was wet with oil. I was afraid that I would need to replace the oil pan gasket, but it turned out to be worse than that. I traced the oil to be coming from the AC compressor which was soaked in AC oil.
I had to have the compressor replaced. (The AC was still cooling just fine.)

If you're talking about the V8, in looks like the oil pan gasket would be very easy to change. You don't have to loose the oil. Just drain it out and then put it back in.
