For a few weeks now, I've been noticing my oil light has been coming on at idle and when driving (provided rpm's drop below 1.5-2k). Majority of the time it only comes on when the engine is at normal temp, rarely when the engine is cold. Now I'm in the process of elimination by replacing my oil pressure sensor first then working my way down the line. I went to Arch Auto Parts to get myself a new sensor. To my surprise, they tell me they have two types for the LS. Just as the guy said it, they have "one switch for a light type and one for a gauge type." The light type being $27 and the gauge type $7. Is there such a thing or should I find myself a new parts store? Thanks.

This may sound silly, but did you check your oil level?????

The LS doesn't/didn't have an oil pressure gauge. He must be looking at a different "LS".

Yeah I checked the oil level. The very first time the oil light came on, the oil level was a little bit above the MIN mark so I topped it off. Ever since then the oil level never went back down yet the light still comes on.

On rockauto, i see two of them pretty much the only difference is brand name. Standard Motor Products and Airtex Which brand is generally better or are they both the same thing? Thanks.

Edit:
I forgot to mention that I have the P0171 and P0174 codes for banks running lean. Would that interfere with oil pressure?

This could be a shot in the dark, but It worked for me.

First thing first how long have you went between oil changes?

I about a month or two over on my oil change granted I was useing valvoline synthetic oil

Notice the oil light would come on what I did was had the system flushed and the light never came on again.

So it could be just simple sludge build up around the pump.

I have approximately 300 miles till my next oil change. My current oil seems dark but nothing unusual for its time in there.

My 01V6 did that and I replaced the sensor, PITA location. Anyway that solved it for awhile. Have a small leak in the oil pan, so pressure is not consistant, so when oil level drops then the light comes on. Also when there is a weather temperature change, like a drop from 60 - 30f then the light comes back on, then when the weather warms the light goes off. 01v6 160k miles. nothing shocks me anymore.
