Hi, first of all I'm new to the forum so please forgive any mistakes. I own a 2000 Lincoln LS V8. I've been having a little trouble with it. About a month ago I noticed a s burnt oil smell in the car while driving. After checking, there was a leak causing oil to get on the engine. I had it repaired for an oil leak that required the valve covers, a new spark plug, a new coil pack, a new gasket on the manifold to be replaced. Also the car was fixed for leaking power steering fluid. Just today before I drove I noticed several small stains on the road that I assumed to be oil stains. The car drives fine, no high temperature reading or anything but the check engine light was on. Also there isn't a burnt oil smell in the car this time like before. I was just wondering of anyone had some trouble shooting tips to narrow the possible problems down to hopefully fix the oil leak without major costs as I'm a college student. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As was said, get the check engine codes read.

Pull the coil covers off, and pull some of the COPs (Coil-On-Plug, not coil packs) out and see if there is any oil in the wells. If so, the valve cover gaskets will need to be replaced (correctly this time).

Even if there was no oil, I promise that you need to replace all the COPs and spark plugs. Never replace just one.

Ok thanks for the quick responses. I haven't been able to check the COPs or anything because of my schedule and its been raining since Sunday lol. But i made it to AutoZone to get the codes scanned earlier. I forgot to get the exact codes but it did come back saying there was a misfire in cylinder 6 and a catalytic converter problem. Still no burning oil smell in the car and my oil level (92%) hasn't dropped). Once again thanks fort he help

well there is a not so small chance your misfire was caused by a bad coil, coil problems will lead to catalytic converter problems.

if those stains were from you leaking, the only way to find the oil problem is to look around and see where it is coming from.

Yea hopefully I can get a look under the hood within the next few days and see if I can find anything. I also was looking at the paperwork from the last repair job and noticed that along with the valve gasket replacement the ignition coil on cylinder 6 was replaced. Kinda sparked my curiosity of maybe the replacement wasn't done right and is leading to the misfire on cylinder 6?
