how do i get my oil filter out???? and yes i did a search

You um.. You unscrew the oil filter from the motor...?

That's a good start.

The hell do you mean, how do you get your oil filter out? Do you mean, how do you take it out of the super tight space after you unscrew it?

You have to rotate the filter, and pull it out lenghtwise. It will magically come out of there when turned just right.

A an oil filter relocation kit is a hot seller for these cars, now you know why :)

I just got done. thats one of the hardest things i think ive ever done ( how did i know frogman was gonna come back with a comment ??)

Thought about it... ah heck, here ya go:

Front and center, dont even have to life the car up to change the oil now :)

yeah i finally got it out. It took me awhile and with alot of force it finally came out.

Once you do it a couple of times it's actually pretty easy. A relocation kit is not a bad idea at all though. Should have had it from the factory!

If someone knows a lincoln engineer kick them in the ass.Something simple like an oil filter becomes a hard thing and almost impossible to get it is simply somethin else.By the engineer a beer after that cause the mark is simply somethin else---good that is

thanks for MYTURN

Well, you may not want to kick that engineer if you knew these cars were built for a V6. At last minute, these engineers had to shoe-horn this brand-new "state of the art" engine into an engine bay intended for a smaller V6. I'll take a V8 with a hard to change oil filter over an V6 with an easy to change one :)

A lady friend of mine has a 96 Cougar with the V6 and it's still a PITA to change the filter, can't really get a grip on the dam thing. I just got fed up and mine has the filter tucked to the frame in the driver's wheel well, easy change now.:)

Wow, did my 1st oil change on the 94 and can attest to the buggerdness of the design.

It's worth having this motor in the car though.

NOT as hard as it looks, it's just got to be pushed as far to the left of the car as possible for it to slide out.

Too to add a little something, I like to take newspaper, or if you work in a dealership those carpet protectors and snake it up inside there. This way when the filter empties out, the oil doesn't go all over the front crossmember.

i clean the area with carb or brake clean and wipe out the lower frame

I just put foil over the area before I pull the filter. The oil runs off the foil and into the drain pan. When you're done throw the foil away and no mess.

ditto - foil works great.

First oil change in a MARK VIII took an hour. 10 minutes ever since. My 95 was 6 qts my 98 is 7 qts - wierd.

My Mark is smeared with oil underneath anyways, a bit more on the cross member won't kill it :D.

Bought it from my brother who did alot of body repair on it (rockers/underside), and in an attempt to stave off rust he oiled the crap out of it.

Not necessary on the southern Marks, but Canadian winters are brutal on MN12's, my Cougar is rotting underneath too :(.
