Has anyone successfully installed a Fram XG2 oil filter on a 1997 Mark VIII without damaging the filter ?

According to Fram, it should fit, but it's about 3/4" longer than the one it's replacing.

throw the fram filter away, they are junk and not worth the risk. i was a ford tech for 12 years (before my boss became a dumbass) and they had me make a little demonstration for our customers. they had me cut open a motorcraft, fram and a napa filter so you could see the inside. the fram was nothing except cardboard glued to cardboard, the napa was surprisingly good quality and the motorcraft was basically the same as the napa. i got pics..........................somewhere.......

2 good things to remember on markviii's NO FRAM, AND NO BOSCH.

Since the Fram filter's case is made of thin steel and dented easily, I had to replace it with another filter.

The solution was to install a Mobil 1 M1-210 Extended Performance Oil Filter.

It's a tight fit, but after a few minutes it slid through the cavity and into place.

Pushing it through required a bit of finger pressure, but since the case is made of heavier duty steel, the case did not deform.

I later read that temporarily disabling the air suspension and jacking up the car would create a greater cavity to maneuver the filter through. But since the oil filter went through without doing so, I can't confirm this is true.

Yes every time I get the TG2 and I never had a problem except on my buddies tbird he had the power steering line and everything in the way. But for my tbirds I had and my mark no problems. I think I just did it some many times I know the technique. If ou have blown motor mounts that's a problem too my buddy use to have a block of wood an lift the engine up slightly from the ac compressor to give that extra 1/2 in.

See for yourself. I use NAPA Gold (made by WIX) or Motorcraft.
