I think I have a leak coming from there. Thought it may have been the pan so I got a new gasket. The drip wasn't coming from the oil pan. It's coming from somewhere in the area of the oil filter assembly. everything else looks dry. VCGs were done already. TCG doesn't seem to be leaking, so that leaves this. It's a $3 dollar part on Rock Auto, and I'm NOT spending $300 at the dealer for a $3 fix. How hard is it. I think it's 3 bolts.

Just for grins, make sure you're using the right oil filter. On my first oil change, I got the "with-oil-cooler" filter, which is shorter - and more importantly at the time - cheaper! After all, how different can it be?
Had a persistent slow leak.
Switched to the "without-oil-cooler" filter, which is longer and a couple bucks more, and no more leak!
So make sure you have the right filter.

I have OCD about that. I double and triple check everytime. I always wipe everything clean before installing the filter. The top of the assembly is wet and I actually saw the drip, and it was higher up from my point of view. I have to get her up on the ramps again and get a better look.

Percentage wise, you have a low chance of leaks coming a static seal. I would look closely to the one dynamic seal in the area, at the crank pulley. Second to the oil filter and next to one of the sensors.

Having watched my friend do mine a couple week's ago in his shop, it's pretty easy. Alot easier than the picture I painted in my head. Granted it was on a lift, but still. If the whole filter area has oil all around it chances are it's the ofag or ops, esp since you just had the vcg's done.. The k member will have it everywhere as well.

I'd suggest doing the oil pressure sensor while you're down there.

if this filter gasket was leaking does it leak only under pressure? where exactly am i looking? i am losing oil, but its not leaving it anywhere on the ground when i park. i had the oil changed and my neighbor said there was oil on the motor, but like it was sprayed. its going on the lift monday and ill look myself, but there is no smoke coming out pipes or on the ground and it was a quart low.

Haha, never knew I posted in a ls thread regarding a ofag. Well, just ignore everything I wrote. :)

While on the topic avoid Fram at all cost. They are junk. Motorcraft filters are great. And Mobil 1.
