Car I am working on needs an oil cooler. Turns out they are not available at any price, anywhere. Is it possible to a bypass or anything. Any way to fix it?

hey just did this last year. if you search you can probably find my post. i went ahead and replaced my oil cooler, but they do sell the the non oil cooler adapter as well if you wanted to bypass it to not have this issue again.

i bought all my parts through the dealer and only paid like 230 for the new cooler, and i think the non oil cooled adapter was like 180.

cliff notes lol, oil filter attaches to the oil cooler, so you can replace the oil cooler, or if you want to eliminate it you can buy the adapter that had no oil cooler and the filter will attach straight to that, but you will have to T the coolant hoses the way you would when bypassing a leaking heater core.

Do you have the part number for the adapter?

I will look, lol that's the same exact issue I had and that's actually how I got the car. The guy that had it thought the engine blew because what people kept telling him and when I pointed out the cooler he told me that people told him it's probably not and that they rarely fail. Long story short I went with my gut that it is and picked up the car for a final price of 600 bucks!

I have a non-cooler adapter from my car if you want it.
U-pull-it Junkyards may have the coolers also. Finding one New is a problem.

SO here is the update. I bought a used non-cooler filter manifold. Instead of replacing the whole thing I just replaced the insert the filter screws onto. All is fine but getting the cooling system clean was a bitch.

I feel like oil coolers are mostly useless. The block is full of oil and coolant. Their temperatures will almost always be pretty similar.

I bypassed my cooler with a 5/8" plastic elbow. The problem isn't oil getting into the coolant. The problem is coolant getting into the oil.

Actually, when the cooler fails you get oil into the coolant because the oil is under higher pressure than the coolant and forces its way into the cooling system.
