Talk about the mark from hell. I took the car around the block today after dealing with the overheating issue to see what it would do, and its still running hot. so I pring it home park it to let it cool down. Come back out to try and burp the system again, and it wont start. It turns over but nothing. There is a beeping under the dash behind the glove box, Im assuming the antitheft system has got its pantys in a bundle. The key broke off in the ingnition about a week after a bought the car but it still works and i havent had the extra cash, so ive just been driving it like that. Im assuming this has something to do with it. I dont have a remote, so i tryed the door code to disarm the system and had no luck. Also tried leaving the battery disconected for a couple hours and that didnt work either. Is there a way to diable the anti theft system permanently? I also checked the inertia swith and its puched down, is that where its supposed to be? thanks for the help guys. shawn

It'll take a little research, but you can easily disable the alarm by disconnect the correct wires behind the glove compartment.

There's another anti-theft device in the ignition, but the fact that you can crank the car leads me to believe that isn't the problem.

Turns over but nothing? You should check to see if you have fuel pressure. On top of the engine, under the beauty cover, you'll see a little schrader valve on the fuel line. You can check there.

If you don't have any fuel pressure, you can find abundant information on how to change the fuel pump and what pumps to buy here and at Markviii.org

In the meantime, are you certain the thermostat is in the right direction. After you run it, do you see an leaks under the car, or is anything a little bit wet, indicating a minute little leak?

And finally, in a pinch, you can replace the ignition at any of the chain stores for a pretty cheap price. You're key won't match, but that's better than having a broken key in there. It's an easy swap.

thanks for the help. how do I disconnet it under the dash. THe beeping leads me to believe that its the antitheft system. Anyone ever heard anything like this coming from that area of the car? yes the thermo is in the right way. and no, there arent any leaks that I can see, but sometimes I can smell the slight faint of a antifreeze

The faint anti-freeze smell means you probably have a tiny little leak. It only take a little bit of air to enter the cooling system and result in the now unpressurized system to boil.

The likely suspect is that little thermostat housing. After the car is running, look for moisture.

Double check all the hoses.

There are O-rings in the cross over tube, one of them is on the cap that seals it shut. Is that area wet. Remember to not over tighten that part because it's VERY hard to replace it if it strips or bends.

And check under the radiator. The last owner could have lied or replaced it with a used one.

Additionally- is the radiator fan turning on? When the car is running and the A/C is on, does the fan turn itself on? This could lead to overheating as well.

As mentioned, anti-theft means the car won't even turn over. The alarm is noted by the horn going off.

Not to insult you, but have you considered a dead battery. Sometimes when the battery is really dead and the alarm goes off, you can't hear the horn but you can hear a rhythmic sound under the dash.

like turbo rich said, the car turns over, but dosent fire. and it isent a rythmatic sound, its a beep. sounds like a cheap alarm clock or a wrist watch, and only happens when the key is turned to the on position.

i have never heard of any kind of beep from under the dash, sounds like an aftermarket alarm or something

the noise is comming from a blue box behind the glove box that appears to be factory. if you are sitting in the passenger seat it is located to the right and is mounted along what would be the inside fender. there are 2 plugs that pull out towards the front of the car. any one know what this is?

air bag module on a Gen2 is blue.....maybe on a Gen1 its behind the glove box.........i dont know..........

i remember reading somewhere that 'x' module will beep if the 'light' for it goes out.......or something.........

i dont see how that would cause a no start though...........

its just odd how the 2 happend at the same time. I moved the box a little, and then tryed to start the car, and it did but shut right back off
