I got to work earlier today and was pulling into a rather tight parking spot. I had to back up a bit to get lined up and when I put the car in reverse, it shifted into reverse so hard I thought it could break the rearend.

Well, I back up and then put in drive again and move up. Just to test I put it in reverse again and same thing happened. If feels like if someone "neutral dropped" the tranny into gear.

After work I backed up and it was fine. Is this the infamous tranny solenoid on it's way out?

It sure sounds that way. (It's what my 04 did.)

On rare occaisions, mine does this too. I wonder how much it costs to fix.

Going from reverse to park is sometimes hard as well so I got into the habit of going to neutral first, then park. It seems to be happier that way.

Is this something you could do yourself?

Joe, is this individual solenoids or is it one unit? If this is on the valve body I wouldn't think it be too hard to change out.

A shop around here does for about 400.

I am sure that if you have enough time and desire you can do it yourself. Probably the biggest pain is getting the transmission fluid into the transmission.

I don't know if it was one solenoid or the whole valve body. I think the repair invoice described the part as "solenoid."

I think I read on here a while ago that someone purchased solenoid asmbly for something like $230 online. He said the pan and filter had to be removed and solenoid asmbly was held in with two bolts, didn't sound that involved. You might do search it wasn't to long ago. Good Luck

I searched around last night on here and even looked up Rockauto.com to see if I could find it. Nothing from Rock Auto and I couldn't find a pic of what this thing looks like. I'll keep looking around. Thanks guys!
