Anyone ever have trouble with a howling noise from around the brake booster area? It seems to start when the car is sitting in traffic for a bit or when its sitting in a parking spot and left on. It starts at a soft tone and gets a bit louder when you accelerate and then it stops until you come to a stop. Then it starts over again the same way till the car is moving pretty well.

I took it to the dealership and they didn't spend enough time on it to decide what it was, the jerks took it out once and said they couldn't duplicate the problem, it sounds like a burnt up motor or pump but it comes from the brake booster area and eventually stops when what seems like colder air gets under the hood.

Any body have an idea that they can give I send much regards!

Thanks!

Also the sound is kinda like a dry or burnt out power steering pump. Reeeeeeeaarr kinda sound but it does not happen when I turn the wheel.

Usually a problem with the brake booster will change when you hit the brakes. Get it to make the sound in your driveway, and press the brake pedal, it should change pitch or go away, and if it doesn't then you can probably rule out the booster. There isn't a whole lot to go wrong there since its all sealed.

The more likely culprit to me would be the coolant reservoir, which is mounted in the same area. Make sure the cap is tight, and the coolant level isn't low.

Thanks, I noticed my coolant is a bit mucky for some reason so Im gunna flush it today and see if the problem starts back up.

hmm. you SURE it's coming from the brake booster area? The engines cooling fan will go into a sort of "high" mode when it detects the engine wanting to begin to overheat. Sure it's not the fan, and are you sure your cooling system is in top working condition?

Its not the fan, its coming from right around the brake booster area. And I am not sure of my cooling system thats why I am trying to go out and get it flushed.

Damn! Hopefully I fixed that problem. Turns out when I had a de-gass bottle replaced the dealership used the same fluid. It looked like dirty carpet cleaner or bucket water! They say it wasn't thick enough to think that a head gasket went or may had just cracked a head but had just been replaced with the same fluid. Plus my oil was A-OK! so I think this went well.
