Hey guys, I have asked a couple questions in the past and you guys have been really helpful. So I have another one. I seriously just noticed that I dont have any rear deck speakers! I looked in the trunk and there is a cutout in the frame for 6x9's. Was it an option to get the car without rear deck speakers? By the way I have a 01 v8 sport with the alpine in-dash 6cd changer.
1. is there supposed to be a mounting bracket? (there isn't one there now)
2. I'm gonna head up to bestbuy tomorrow, what wattage are those speakers supposed to be?
3. I found a wiring harness that isn't connected to anything in the trunk behind the carpet up the side near the deck. Is that for a speaker connection?

any help would be appreciated guys!

I have the same thing, I thought the guy who owned my car before me had a sub in the trunk, but maybe the 00-02 LS come with a wiring harness for the rear dock speakers ?

The rear deck speakers in the LS are 6x9 subwoofers. The base sound systems don't have the subs, but the harness is still there. You're also missing the amp that goes with the subs (IIRC; I know there is one in the 2nd Gen LSes, but I'm not sure about the 1st Gens).

Also, you don't want to put normal speakers back there--the head unit is not sending a full-spectrum signal back there, only the low frequencies.

if you're hooking up full range 6x9's to the rear deck, you might be disappointed. i believe only low frequencies go to those locations, as originally they were "subs".

I was thinking about my single 12 in a bandpass enclosure in the trunk (which sucks without being in the cab airspace, btw), and thinking about those locations for the 6x9's. What if i built a box, and ported it up through those locations? I probably wouldn't get points for sound quality, but i bet it would hit a lot harder in the car...

thanks for the replies guys. Does anyone know how many watts those 6x9 subs are? and what wattage amp I will need? I am assuming I can connect everything to the wiring harness. Anyone have the 2 rear subs and amp for sale?
