:D I am lovin my new (slightly used) 02 LS V8 but I am not lovin' the annoying over speed warning chime or the cruise light flashing everytime I exceed a mere 70mph:mad: . I read all about the clockspring issues on this forum and figured as much for my other problems (gotta love when you push minus on your wheel and you go faster) and the local Lincoln dealer confirmed that I should start with the clockspring for that issue. They also said it would cost me 225 to start trying to fix or undo my chiming problems (also in reverse). They apparently had no clue and had never heard of this before. They said in pretty girl terms that they needed to take apart my whole console and trick the computer into thinking I am replacing some part and then the chimes should be gone.....yeah I'm no tech but I don't want to pay them that much to do it. I have searched and searched but found no answers from anyone who had the same problem. If you did and it is now fixed, PLEASE tell me who and how.
THANKS!!!

my dealer fixed mine underwarrenty but it was definatly the thing in the steering wheel i didnt know they had to takeapart the whole dash

From what I have heard about this chime over 70mph and in reverse is that the odometer has been tampered with or replaced improperly. Maybe someone else can "chime" in here, haha

clockspring

oh yeah, i already have the radio controls confusion and the airbag light.
i know someone has been in the steering column as they broke the housing:mad: . I got this car from a friend who is a dealer, he purchased it an auction for me.
i dont really think that anyone has messed with anything for mileage reasons, if so it wouldnt show 121,000 or at least if i was going to do such a thing i would shoot for 60 or 70k. i am thinking that someone who didnt know what the heck they were doing tried to fix the controls when they were messing up because of the clockspring. anyway...any suggestions for the flashing/chiming annoyances are greatly appreciated.
Thanks:D

correct - the chime is the tamper alert - meaning that the gauge cluster has been swapped and not properly married to the PCM. This is designed to prevent people from 'cheating' on the actual mileage since the odometer is part of the gauge cluster.

thanks QUIK

QUIK, do you know how to make the chiming and all stop or "turn it off", if its not possible for me or my old man to do (his dad has an auto mech shop) I would really like to know exactly what to ask the dealership to do instead of having them guess at a place to start trying to alleviate my problem and watching the bill go sky high for no good reason.
