Well, I just bought my first car a couple of days ago, a 02 LS, but as i drove it i noticed that i really dont like the brakes that came on the car. They seem to be hard and i have to push them in a good way to get the car to stop. Is this how they should be? The last car I drove i could just barrly push the brakes and the car would stop and they were not hard at all. Can i make mine like this? Also when i hit the brakes i can here a kind of roaring noise in the front and the wheel kind of shakes. Is this my rators?

yep, rotors. my brakes also require a bit more effort than when the car was new, especially right before you come to a complete stop, you have to press them more. It used to be the opposite when the car was new; press light to medium and let up right before stop so the car didnt jerk back. In addition to new pads and rotors, i plan on bleeding all the old brake fluid out, and replacing the rubber portions of the brake lines with stainless lines. That should be more than ample to get good response back.

The aftermarket brake kits seem expensive for what they are. If someone that has them does road course racing I'd like to hear their thoughts on how they perform, on and off the track (initial cold stopping power, brake feel etc).

I also have to replace my driver's side front hub/bearing assy. That is adding to my brake feel as well. On hot days you can hear clicking as you drive that gets louder while braking so I'll probably tackle that this weekend.

Sounds like you might need new rotors, and pads.
What you describe sounds like the pads are very low, and maybe into the backing(roaring noise). If they are that far gone, then you will definately need rotors.
I had a pulsing, so I changed all 4 rotors, and all the pads, this last weekend. Now, I can stop on a dime, and give you change!

If you are looking for direct OEM replacements with BETTER performance. Try Power Stop Extreme Brakes. I have thier drilled/slotted rotors with ceramic pads. Love them.:D Run you less then $500 for front and rear with pads.

Rollin, no matter how many times i see your car in different threads, i never get tired of looking!

Thanks for the help. I changed my pads but it'll be another month or so before I can get the rotors, went broke buying the car.
