Well I finally bit the bullet and ordered 18" 3 piece wheels for my LSE. I looked at 19" and 20" but the 18s" I found were lighter than my stock chrome 17" wheels. All of the 19" & 20" wheels I found, weighed more than my stock wheels unless I was willing to spend about $1400-$1800 per wheel. The 18s will also compliment the ride of the stiffer Eibach springs by allowing the use of 40 aspect ratios on the tires instead of 35s or less. Hope they look as good as the specs make them sound. Pictures to follow.

As a side note, is there any interest in the 17" chrome 2004 LSE wheels with the stock Michelin 235/50 17 tires with about 7000 miles? Don't know if I want to let them go, but I thought that I would try to see what the interest level is for them.

So which wheels did you get?
I was going to surprise everyone after I got the pictures, but because you asked. I ordered the SSR GT 10 from The Tire Rack.

George,

I can't wait to see them. I know you did yourself proud with them! By the way, I have a friend here in town that might be interested in your 17" wheels. Shoot me an email when you get a chance and let me know about how you are looking to get out of them.

What size did you get? 18"? Also, which size tire did you go with?

I went with 18" x 8" and 245/40 ZR 18 tires Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. Killed me to go with a French owned company, but my other choices had too many compromises

BTW, It might be interesting to the group that these very light Forged Wheels with the new wider tires were still 3 lbs heavier than the stock wheels with only 7000 miles on them. It just shows how light the stock 17" wheels on the 04 LSE are in the real world.

George,
what was the weight on those 18" you got? What are the stock weights for the 17" and 16"?

The stock LSE 17" Wheel/Tire combination was 47.5 lbs. and the SSR 18" wheel/tire combination is 51.5 lbs. The actual wheel alone weights are as follows: 17" LSE Wheel, 22.5 lbs. and the SSR 18" wheel, 23.8 lbs. I do not know the actual 16" weights as I never weighed a 16" wheel. These measured weights are slightly heavier than the advertised weights. I weighed the wheels with valve stems and balancing weights.

I love the look. How has the ride quality been with the SSR's? As a side note, some tires are heavier than others. It seems to be harder to find tire weight information.

Hey George, are those Voxx wheels?

Are these the ones you bought? they look really similiar

Shout out from the Natural state. I would like to see a pic of the 17" chrome LSE wheels you are thinking of selling. I also have an 04 model and have been considering upgrading to 17" or 18" wheels for quite some time now. Send me a photo and give me a ballpark price.

thanks,

Yes I know. I had to write to Michelin to get them. Ride quality is about the same as with the stock tires, but the handeling is better. But remember that I had already lowered the car by 1.25" before the wheel tire swap. The Eibachs did firm up the ride quite a bit.

Oh yeah!! I got to see George's car up close and personal and those SSR's are freakin' sweet. Pictures do NOT do them justice.
