Bought a '96 Eddie Bauer Explorer, 4x4, white/gold, 126K, new belt, plugs, wires, etc- as shop truck- $2000.
No more working out of the mark!
That left me free to order two new stainless hi-flow cats, two x-pipes, two of Geno's stainless mufflers and an appointment with the muffler shop next week!

what engine in the explorer? if its the 5.0 your good to go, bought my 00 5.0 with 125k and got over 230k on her now

you cant forget the vvt 6 banger they put in select few they have tons of power and still last forever

I've never heard of an Explorer with vvt. As far as I know, all '91-'95's had the 4.0L OHV V-6 and then the 4.0L SOCH V-6 took over after that. And of course there were the 302 V-8 and 4.6L SOHC V-8 versions. If they did put vvt V-6's in the Ex, what year(s) were they available?

yup thats it i worked for ford from 98 till earlier this year and uhhhh yeah i think hes referring to the 4.0 sohc and as far as "lasting forever" the sohc is a pos, the pushrod 4.0 was better than that thing

Thought so. I like the 4.0L OHV. It's a good engine. If you take care of it. And it's got torque all over the place. I've heard horror stories about the SOHC version as well. If I get another Exploder, it will be either a 302 or 4.6L. But I think I'll just drive my '94 till the wheels fall off:)

my buddy down the street has a 01 with a vvt in it i think its some kind of bastard child or something ive never seen or heard of one before his and you all just solidified my thoughts on it being an odd duck

I'll more than likely get my wife an Ex with taxes, which would be the better option between the 2 V8s, I'm thinking about the 4.6 solely due to the fact that those motors and stuff are everywhere, so in case I needed another, it wouldn't be hard to find donor parts

I've never heard of a 4.0L with vvt and never heard of any v-6 other than 4.0L OHV and SOHC in the Exploder. Maybe he swapped another engine into it. That would be interesting. So I must say - Pics or it ain't so!:D

I would like to find a decent Explorer, or maybe a 4.0 AWD extended Aerostar for the cargo capacity. I had a RWD Aerostar extended that I bought at 120,000 miles and drove another 80,000 miles before the original A4LD lost overdrive. I sold it to a very grateful woman who was looking for cheap reliable transportation and did not care about OD.
It was amazing what that thing could carry.

ok..........im willing to bet he "says its a vvt but he means sohc. get a pic

heater

Got what sounds like blend door issues on auto heat system on this exploder. Heat is either turned off off blowing out of all vents- floor, panel, defrost. Weird clicking noise every few seconds as long as system is turned on.
Help?
