Hey everyone! I am making my first car purchase in about 4 weeks, and rounded it down to the following 4 cars. Mazda Millenia S 2002, 1999 Lexus GS300, 2001/2 Volvo S80 T6 (twin turbo..pushes 280 hp), and of course a 2003 Lincoln LS V6.

I drive about 4,000 miles a year at most, but I need a car that will tend to not give me issues. I'm considering a pre 03 LS, but I like the upgraded interior and tailights of the 03+ more. I have my heart set on the Lincoln, so here are some questions.

For 2003, what was the base equipment on the LS V6. What kind of audio came stock ? how many speakers? Do any LS's have a factory sub?

I want either midnight blue, cream, or pearl white color. I think those are attractive on the LS. Any opinions?

If the car has around 60-80K miles, mostly highway, what problems are "normal" and expected, and how much would it cost to fix should something like that happen?

What is 0-60 times for the 2003 V6?
We currently have a 2000 Taurus which uses the same engine, and its pretty decent. Thanks in advance! - Jake

If you cant get a 2003+ V8 then get the Volvo S80. But my question to you is. How can you get a 2002.5 S80 and not a 2003 LS V8? The S80's are pretty pricey compared to the LS. My wife ha a S60 T5 that I chipped putiing out over 350HP at the crank. The car flies compared to my LS. The S80 T6 also has a reprogram putting it cloe to 400HP. Turbo is the way to go!!

4000 miles a year... wtf

just get the LS, you know thats what you want....

2000-2002 T6's go as low as 11K at dealer auctions around here. I want to know more about that reprogram / chip for the S80...

"4000 miles a year... wtf"

haha yeah, i use the car about 4 times a week to drive locally, maybe once a week long distance.

Have you driven all the vehicles? Personally, I didn't like the S80. Too floaty and unresponsive, even in T6 trim. If you do go that way, I've been told by owners to stay away from anything prior to '02. But, I think you should try the S60 first. Its definitely a small back seat, but if you are more interested in driving dynamics, it is a much more nimble car than its bigger brother.

I've also heard too many horror stories about the miller cycle engine in the Millenia S. Another one to avoid.

I really can't speak of the Lexus. They have a good rep, but people just don't seem jazzed about them at all. More like an appliance, it seems.

I decided on the LS. Finally got around to looking at some LS's (done with finals). I decided on a pre 03, because I saw one with angel eyes, and I definitly need them!

I also noticed that some of the pre 2003 LS's have chrome on the front and back bumper, and others don't. Was it part of a package?

Here are examples of cars I looked at.

2002 LS V6, sunroof, no other options, 75K miles, the guy wanted 16. Leather was a bit dirty and paint had nicks. Had the non chrome wheels. Yeah. I dont think so.

2001 LS, this one was a stick shift ( i dont mind), beautiful exterior with no flaws, 80K miles (all city probably), when we fired her up, the RPM needle fluctuated a little bit at idle, that turned me off. Dealer wanted 12 big ones. Dont think so..

I will probably head down to manheim auctions and look for an 02 with the chrome wheels that I want. It's a large investment...if im dropping 12-14K, id rather be satisfied 100%, even if it means waiting longer.

i originally wanted a v6 too but it was impossible for me to find one so i ended up with the v8...i couldn't be happier with it

If you are asking about 0-60 times you will want the V8 eventually. Also, wheels can be replaced fairly cheap, don't let that be a deciding factor if you find a good deal.

I just noticed the MPG thread....to be more specific, while I notice substantial fuel savings with a V6 over a V8?
