Hey guys - I'm new to the site.
I just purchased a 2001 LS with a V8 and sport package. only 23K miles:)

I have an issue though BTW- I did search the site and didnt find anything that fit my particular issue.

I went to start the car this morning and it wouldnt turn? No starter movement but I had strong lights, the memory seats moved quickly and the radio came on, but nothing to the starter. I pushed up on the gear shift and made sure that the car was completely in park but still nothing. after a few more times it started. I wasnt amused:mad:
Then it did the same thing at lunch today at work - it was pretty embarassing taking my coworker for a ride in my 'new' car and having it not start:rolleyes:

it almost seems like a kill switch was keeping it from turning. has anyone had this happen? Is this a known or documented issue? I got the extended warranty so it will be covered but I dont have time to be without a car right now.

Anyway great site you have hear and I am enjoy looking at all your photo galleries

If you get a flashing code from the anti-theft light on the dash, it could be a PATS (Passive Anti Teft System) fault. If you just hit the starter and it's like a normal start, except the starter doesn't hit, I'd check the starter relay. IIRC, it's in the power distribution box on the front edge of the fenderwell behind the passenger-side headlight.

I had a bad starter relay on my '04; it was a pain to diagnose because it was an intermittent fault...

Congrats on finding an '01 model with such low mileage. I hope you did a Carfax report.

Sounds like an anti-theft issue to me as well if the starter checks out.

check u`r shifter. make sure its all the way in park just force it up a lil bit if u have to. i had this happen to me, and i just pushed forward and tried again and it worked. happened twice. really hope this works man.

thanks for the input guys - it hasnt happened since

I have an appointment at the dealer on Saturday - they'll give it a look.

BTW- I got a carfax and it was clean. I am really enjoying this car - I just wish it had the chrome 17 inch 5 stars on it instead of the satin finish 17's. I was thinking of getting some larger wheels/tires but cant find anything that I like.

Anyway thanks guys

This happened to me and it turned out to be a starter fuse or something like that. Look in the box in the engine compartment.

When the dealer finally diagnosed the problem on my '04 as a bad starter relay, the tech saw a U-series error code. I don't remember what it was, but I included it in a post. If you'll search for "starter relayI," you should find it in one of my posts on the subject.
