So I searched and searched and read and read. I understand the VCG leaks oil into the coils causing them to misfire. It seems this is covered for 2003 vehicles and above. I just bought a 2002. When I bought it I drove it and it was fine, salesman said hey we need to change the VCG its no big deal. So I confirmed with him, by email, that he was covering this issue.

So they changed it and I picked it up. Car ran fine for 1 day. Then a check engine light p0308. Misfire cylinder 8. I called the salesman, he transferred me to service who set up an appointment for saturday morning. A couple of questions:

1. Do you think they will cover this?
2. What info can I be armed with (TSBs, or program info) to better ensure that they cover it?

Thanks in advance I am very happy to find this forum, I traded in my BMW for this Lincoln and I was on a very good BMW forum, so its good to find another informative forum.

WELL if he initially told you that he will cover it then hopefully they stick to their word, since you got a 2002 you probobly have over 50k and not covered under factory warranty. have them change all the coils.

Sitting at the dealer right now. They say no oil on the plugs. They say it is moisture and they are going to seal them and see if that works. No word on if we are going to fight about a charge or not.

? seal them...They are sealed with the plastic cover that goes over them . That cover has a gasket which you would think would keep any moisture out . I wouldnt accept that answer.....keep buggin 'em .

Yeah that didnt work for them. The CEL came right back on. They are taking it to Lincoln monday morning. They said the would take care of the cost. We will see. . .

I will be very impressed if they do cover it without any hassle. If they do remember them next time you go to buy a car.
