So i've been hearing this noise in the front end along with the intermitting air bag light...here is the diagnostic;
$397 Sway bar
$99 Align
$630 for the connector under both seats
...then here is what else they found;
Upper control arm $586.69
lower $ 1305.20
Tie rod $ 132.60
A/C compressor $1142.10
Head lights $101

WTF!

Hell, a 4 wheel alignment only costs 50 bucks.

As for the connector under the seat, find the severed wire, and splice it.

The car isn't even worth that much. i'm trying to find if there are articles in here to try and fix some of this. The problem is just a couple of months ago when i was in S.C. when i took it in to get the clock spring replaced i asked them to check my suspension and they claim "everything is fine". Now the coffers have opened all of a sudden.

Sway bar from team ford: $120
Lower control arm from team ford: $313 each
Upper control arm from team ford: $107 each
tie rod ends from team ford: either $40 or $54 for outers (depending on side) and about $40 each for the inners
AC compressor from Team ford: $460

Grand total, if you were to do both sides for control arms and bushings: $1594 for parts.

And honestly, it sounds like they are just throwing parts at it. A TON of parts. I find it hard to believe that all that stuff needs replacing, and all you have is a "clunk" noise.

Well they say they just checked to see what else is wrong. I just want to set this car on fire! its like every two weeks something else goes wrong and i wish i had my own garage to do the work in. I'll check out team ford. I've never done any of this work myself so i'll check on one of these bases in the Virginia beach area to see if someone can help.

What we are trying to tell you is THEY ARE RIPPING YOU OFF. Go to a trusted local wrench. Its not the cars fault its thieves.

^ True. They are trying to get $2700 in labor. You know what, let's make it 2500 since there are things like recharging AC system that require a little additional supplies. Drive up here, and I'll do it for 1250 labor lol.

I'd go get a second opinion on that. My clunk pretty much vanished by installing new ball joints. I'm thinking swaybar next for me, since they clunk too when the rubber end pieces go bad.

Gotcha! I'll do that some time this week. I really don't want a new car payment and seeing as Ford can't tell me when the 5.0 is coming out. And no need to run to a foreign car.

I wouldn't ever go back to that place again. It doesn't look like they were really looking out for your best interest by the way the were charging so much to do the repairs. I would start out with just changing the sway bar bushings and sway bar links. I went with energy suspension bushings instead of factory. They are greaseable bushings. Should cost less than $100 to change bushings and links. If that doesn't eliminate the clunk then go on from there. Like pete said, it's unlikely that all that NEEDS to be replaced. Good luck!! did you replace the sway bar mounts? i ordered universal ones from energy and it took less than an hour to replace them and no more clunky. i too had thrown some parts at it, luckily had a shady ford parts connection at the time so i didnt pay much. sway bar mounts were like 20 bucks from energy suspension, theres a thread on here somewhere

I change all on the picture in one day, it left on tie-rod end to change was the black one.
total 1554.76$

i did all those things and it still clunked. start with the sway bar mounts. cut the old ones off real quick and install new ones. easy

How did you access that bolt under the DCCV (the front one on the right side)? That one is what made the job difficult enough that I just had a shop replace the stabilizer bar.

Good info folks i'm gonna try energy suspension first. I'm gonna try and do this myself i hope my car doesn't fall apart afterwards...lol. Man this car something like a beast sometimes! Before my squeaking i loved when someone would pull up next to me and wanna race now, no way i'm to worried my tire would fly off. BTW would anybody have a part number for energy suspension bushings? Damn and i wanted to lower it also but not right now.

9.5171 part number is for the sport i believe. not sure if non sport is different. just measure the diameter of the sway bar

shouldnt need alignment. your not taking anything else apart. and yes sometimes the endlinks can cause the noise, but alot of the time its the sway bar mounts

They had my car in the bay for maybe 30 mins then i saw them taking it on a test drive and oh i could here the flowmasters growling so i know he was enjoying my car too much. But then he came back and wanted me to ride with him to see if i could replicate the noise and, what they found was in the picture provided those two bolt were loose. They turned both of them four full turns and the noise was gone. And they didn't even charge me anything for checking my car. As for the other parts they told me that slowly i should change the parts out so i'm not spending all that money at once and that some things were worn a little but will survive. They would also use Energy suspension parts. Now for the stealership....this Lynnhaven Lincoln-Mercury i'm waiting on this so called service director Sam Vanderslice to call me back so i can tell him what i think and i want my $156.93 back for the bull service they gave me.

That's awesome that you no longer have that clunking noise. Sounds like a good place to get future work done at. I would suggest still changing the sway bar bushings and links soon.
