NOW LEGAL tint combinations.
1. Up to 35% in the Rear/up to 35% front
2. 35-30% in the rear/up to 50% front
3. IF YOU HAVE BELOW 30% TINT IN THE REAR, YOU CAN NOT HAVE FRONT TINT If you have an MPV, which include but are not limited to, SUVs, Station Wagons, minivans, Toasters, etc., and said MPV has factory installed privacy glass (smoked), you are allowed to have up to 50% tint in front.

I know this post is old from December but check out this ticket I got and I go to court on this August 16th 2010. I have 35% all the way around and our law here in Alabama is 32% all the way around. Nothing can be on the windshield unless it's a 6" strip, which I don't like. SUV's can have 35% on the front side windows and all the way down to 2% on anything behind the driver. Go figure!

The ticket below is from an Alabama state trooper with a bad meter. 4 test by 4 different meters have been done and three of them being law enforcement and one by the shop that tinted my windows. He also wrote me a ticket for not having a tint compliance sticker. Uhhh, I didn't do the work so why do I get a ticket for something I didn't do? Check out his percentages below. Crazy!

when i got pulled over for tint, he didn't even check it, he just said that it was so dark that he didn't have to and could tell just by looking at it (it was 20% at the time which was illegal here in illinois but still lol), and then he walked around my car looking for other things, and got me with no front plate which is gay

what did the other meters read?
