I'm off to the drag races tonight and it is the first time I will be running on Nitto drag radials. I need advise. If you have experience with d/r's I would like some input on tire pressure and burnout technique. I am running a 93 with stock engine and exhaust. Transmission has been J-modded and has a cooler. Back tires are Nitto d/r 315/35x17.
Most posts I have read indicate anywhere from 14 to 20 psi on the rear and 55 psi one the front (Nitto d/r 275/40x17).
Most recommendations I have read for heating the tires is to back in to the waterbox, do a quick spin, pull out of the box and spin for about 7 seconds or until they start to smoke then, release the brake and let them run out a few feet.
I have also read that once staged, place the car in neutral, rev the engine once and when you feel the brake pedal sink a little more, place the transmission back in drive and load the torque converter to the almost ready to break loose condition.
If anyone can offer any more tips I would appreciate it.
It would be good to see some LvC members from the area there, gates open at 5pm.
(I like drag racing because I don't forget where I am going
