Hi there, I am a new 2006 Black Lincoln LS owner. I am pretty sure it has all the options but the NAV. Pretty excited about this car. It was bought with a salvage title and has a few problems, but nothing that seems too major. A quick couple of questions:

Any quick tips on how to program the door keypad? I am sure I can find some videos on youtube so no big deal there.

Also, I tried programming my garage door opener with instructions from the owner's manual and now neither it or my remote work. Anyone else had this issue?

The passengers side headlight has moisture in it. I found a thread saying that is a known problem and to put them in the oven. Is that a known problem on all LS models or just the early ones.

The horn was not working. Was worried it might be the clock spring but found the horn was disconnected by the grill. The horn side connector is broken though. If I shove really hard on it and push the panic button it works. Really loud when your head is right there by the way. Can I just cut both connectors off and splice the wires together instead of buying a new horn?

Finally, the ActiveTrac light has come on a couple of times intermittently but hasn't for several days. Should I be worried?

1. There are a lot of features on the LS that are standard. If you want to see what you do and don't have, enter your VIN here:

2. Clear instructions on this are in the owner's manual. I hope that the card with the factory code was in the glovebox with the owner's manual.

3. Worked fine for me. It's a two part process. You program the car with the remote you have, then you program the opener to accept the car (and you must reprogram it to accept you existing remotes at the same time.)

4. No moisture problems with either of my gen IIs, but that is a small sample size.

5. Your choice.

6. Get the codes read (Ford specific scan tool needed) and see what's up. There's no "ActiveTrac" option for the LS. You either have traction control or "AdvanceTrac."
 
I haven't heard of any gen 2 headlights leaking. Are the headlights from a 1st gen? Pictures.....

Depending on where the car was hit, you may have bought a pig in a poke!
 
Sorry, yeah, it is AdvanceTrac. Hasn't come back in several days so who knows what is going on there. I will get it read if it keeps coming back but for now I will keep my fingers crossed

I was told a deer ran into the front left of the car causing the salvaged title, but the headlight that has the moisture in it is the passengers side. When I get a chance to tear it out I guess I will know if it has a gen 1 headlight or not. Sounds like the baking the light in the oven works pretty good to fix it.

The factory code for the door keypad was not left in the glove box and I had to download an owners manual. Is there anyway I can get the factory code?

I will give the visor buttons another run, but for now can't even get the remote working again. Not sure what happened there.

I am going to try splicing the horn wires together today. Cheaper than a new horn.

Overall the car is a little rough around the edges, but got the car for $5200 with only 81K on it so it seems like I got a decent car for the price. Only time will tell I guess. Its not perfect but not many 8 year old cars are.

Gen I headlights are grey, and gen II headlights are black. Also I think in gen I both the high beam and low beam circles are the same size while
A gen II has a smaller high beam ring than the low beam.

Your local ford or lincoln dealer can get you the code for the keypad but they do charge ya for it unless it's a nice small town shop.


How old is the battery? These cars do not like old batteries. If your battery is on the weaker side sometimes crazy things happen such as advance track lights and other lights flashing for no reason at all.

Thanks for everyone's help. I am obviously not a mechanic so I appreciate the answers you have provided. They are definitely Gen 2 headlights. I took the one out with the moisture in it and think I have found the problem. Near where the bolt by the grill is there is a crack in the black plastic. It looks like it may have been broken there and someone did some sort of plastic weld to get it back together. I have some high temp RTV that I used to fix my leaky window washer fluid reservoir. Will try to coat it on the crack and plug it up. How do I get the headlight assembly dried out though? Should I throw it in the oven or would that be risking future leaks where the sealant is around the rest of the assembly?

Another question. On both valve covers there is a slight leak near the front by whatever is plugged in there. What are these plugs and how simple are they to replace or could it just be a gasket to replace?

Those are the VVT oil control solenoids. It's just an o-ring on each that needs to be replaced, but you have to take the valve covers off to do it. I'd replace the valve cover gaskets too if you do that.
 
Thanks Joe. Doesn't seem to be much oil coming out of there but maybe sometime down the road I will do that.
 
Doing well Rick. Just trying to get some of the problems worked out on this car, but really happy with it so far. Might be ordering new wheels for it this week. All 4 look like they have been rubbed on curbs. How long you had yours?
 
i bought an '04 V8 about 6 months ago and really enjoy the car. it's such a bargain if you can find one in good condition, which i did. had to take it in for a couple coils about a month ago that were covered under the 100k mile warranty but otherwise no issues so far. hope you get all your sorted out!
