Hello guys, unfortunately my membership and 1st post is being created due to a problem I've just came across with my LS.

I have a 2001 V8 Lincoln LS that is in need of new lower ball joints on the Front Driver & Passenger Sides. I've done a little searching through LVC and understand the arm must be replaced but still need a little assistance.

I'm looking for the correct Part Numbers for both pieces for my LS and is FiveStarFord still the be place to buy these? Is there a known reliable vendor on eBay you guys prefer. Any help to save cash during this Holiday Season would be great. I appreciate anyone's help and I'm glad to be apart of this community.

Have you checked what size ball joints you have yet? If 14mm just buy balljoints only off fleabay.

2001 has the 14mm. Knuckle and joint assy are...

I would say just buy the ball joints off of ebay. Shortly after I replaced my knuckles in 08 was when the guy on ebay popped up selling them. Now as far as the knuckles goes, I would try TeamFord, I paid like 267 per knuckle but if you are trying to save money then your best option is to buy the ball joints off of ebay and have them pressed in.

I will buy all you have for that price......cost has since tripled since then, and back then there was an inexpensive kit with both knuckles in it!!

I don't know who to go to here in Columbus, OH to get the Ball Joints Pressed in.

I wish my local O'Reilly's still had them. They're only $181.99 a piece through them including the control arm: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/search/Ball+Joint+%26+Components/C0317/C0106.oap?make=Lincoln&model=LS&year=2001&vi=1373903
They can no longer order them.

I called Five Star Ford because I couldn't find this post when I was looking (luckily I found it). The gentlemen I spoke to wasn't Max, but he quoted me @ $558 I believe. May have been $548 before shipping.

I will check to see how much a Gold Membership Plus Total cost of parts is going to run me.

I own my own shop and I one of my customers was quoted over 1200 for balljoints at a dealer ship, that is just stupid, a ball joint is a ball joint it aint gold, I bought the ball joints from deutschepartsusa off of ebay for 120$ for both, its not like rest of the knuckle is worn out, unless wrecked. just use a regular ball joint press to press joints in an out, unfortunately, I could not get the ball joint press in there with the wheel bearing in place, I spent more time getting it out w/o damaging it than the whole job. I did the whole job for 450$ and looked like a savior, FU stealership, typical ball joints for a car is like 40$, these are not high tech devises and have flat panel tv's attached to them. Its just like the plastic intakes that break on 4.6L crw vic, lincoln tc, mustang etc, cost over 550$ plus gaskets, and I get them for for 200$ w/ built in gaskets and have the updated aluminum crossover.

As you guys see, I'm now a Gold Member, sooooooooo. I guess I will be ordering Knuckles from Maxx on Friday.

so you just like throwing money away, got any extra to throw around, I will put them in for 500$ if you want. why not save hundreds and just get the joints, there is nothing else to the arm, no other bushings or anything.

Uh No, but like I previously stated. I am not familiar with where I can have the Joints pressed in, so I must take the best option availabe to me. Which I did.

I would imagine the need for the whole assembly is the risks involved with the stresses pressing puts on the aluminum arms. It's not that it's a special ball joint, it's just do you really want to put that stress on aluminum suspension pieces?

I'm just asking.......

I'm sorry, I'm not sure the point you're getting at. Can you state this a different way?

I just used a standard ball joint press, rent them for free at a parts store, it looks like a big c-clamp, if you are worried about stresses don't hit a bump or turn a corner.

Pressing a ball joint in and out puts stress on the surrounding material. My question is, is the aluminum casting strong enough to handle the stresses of the process? A steel arm is flexible enough (ergo the use of aluminum) to handle repeated pressings.

I gotcha now. I appreciate the input.

I just got this work done on my ls. I was charged $600 for labor & parts. He orderd the arm with ball joint from the dealer...did i over pay?

I paid 69 bucks shipped for the ball joint from euromarque on ebay. Old one out, new one in using the c-clamp style press. Worked perfectly. I also like how the new one has a grease fitting. How dumb is that of the stock ones to not have a grease fitting?

Did yours come with a str8 grease fitting like mine which you can't grease in the car? I called them and told them they should switch to 90's. I switched over to 90 degree grease fitting so I can lube easy.

yessir. stupid design. I am going to go get a 90 now that you mention it. Good idea.
