I have an 04 lincoln LS V8, and I was driving to work tonight and I was using the manual :q:q:q:q mode on my car when it got stuck in third gear. Now this isn't the first time this has happened, but I did not realize it at the time, because my radio was up pretty loud and I was driving a for a good amount of time at a high RMP. Now my car when I start it up when it's cold has a knock in the motor and when it's warmed up it knocks at over 3000 RPM's. Do you guys think it's a blown motor?

I just posted something similar about the SST in my car not responding and not going higher than 2nd.

First thing I'd do is check the oil. Then check to make sure that the knocking you hear isn't one of the accessories (PS pump, alternator, etc.). Sometimes, if run at a higher RPM for an extended amount of time, they'll fail.

Yeah I put oil in it let it run for a minute then the motor made a squeaking noise and shut down

Man that stinks. Is your car still under warranty? Rush it in for repairs if it still is. How fast were you going in 3rd gear? By the sounds of things, you ran the engine near the red line for quite some time!

Yeah Unfortunately it's not under warranty, and it turns out the one of the connecting rods snapped, and went through the engine block.

Damn, that completely sucks. I feel sorry for you. Hopefully you can either afford a new engine (looks like they are about 1200 from that other thread) or insurance doesn't feel like totalling it. Unfortunately, labor is really expensive for taking the engine out.

Thanks the good thing is my father has his own shop so I don't have to pay for labor, and he has an account through a salvage yard, and we got a motor for $1,000.00, so atleast I have that going for me.

good thing that he owns a shop? that's a freaking godsend for someone who owns a LS!

i'm sure if any members live in your area your dad can make a killing with just repairing LS' off this forum, lol

Yeah he pretty much hates the cars when I bought it all he could talk about is the trannies, and all the seloniods he's had to replace on them, same one they use in the new Explorers, and mountaineers apparently.
