So I just got out of the hospital and my bro was driving my car for 4 days, I jsut got in it and started riving it and it stays in high rpms, around 3k. I put it in neutral and it stays up then goes down eventually. If im at a stop light its trying to take off on me and im sure causing damage to my brakes. What the hell is going on now. I was thinking maybe transmissions sticking in 2nd gear. I have no idea. Could it be something with the clockspring, my airbag light has been on for a little and havent had time to get it fixed with my surgery and other problems ive been having. Please let me know what you think it could be. Oh it also died once after i put it in neutral, it went up then came straight back down and cut off. I dont need to her how i need to sell the car or anything rude or ignorant that im sure Dunitrite will chime in with. Thanks in advance. 2000 ls8 w 92k

no... the car is staying in a high gear. it stays up around 3000 rpms. What would cause this. IS it hard to understand.

Your still confusing us man. Do you mean that the idle is stuck? If so check you TPS ( Im pretty sure the LS has one), and check all of your vacuum lines. If you mean that it is stuck in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear, sorry, I cannot help. Go to a transmission shop. A little clarity is needed.

Yours LS has a throttle cable, see if something is preventing the throttle to close all the way.

The other thing could be a vacuum hose leak; you might be able to hear that, I think you would get a CEL and throw a code.

That would be staying in a LOW gear. The transmissions shift points could be getting thrown off a little by a high/inconsistent throttle reading from the TPS.
You'll want to make sure the throttle butterfly is closing all the way when you take your foot off the pedal. If it closes all the way check for air leaks in the intake tube between the MAF sensor and throttle body.
There isn't much of a way to test the Throttle Position Sensor unless you have another known good one to compare readings with. To find out if that is bad you will probably either have to replace it (which could be expensive, and may not even fix it) or take it to the stealership and have it tested.
The other option is that the throttle butterfly isn't closing all the way and is keeping the idle up even when your foot is off the gas. This would be very noticeable when the car is idling and still in park, because the idle speed would be much higher than normal based on what you've described. If the idle speed is normal in park, I dunno what to tell you.
