I was changing out my transmission today and I think I'm screwed. The bellhousings are different but both came out of V8 vehicles I was told. The tags on the side of the trannys state 160 (out of my car) and the one I purchased states 150 (purchased). Here are a few pics.

In the second pic tranny2 the one on the left came out of my car which is a 2001. The one on the right came out of a 2000. Besides the bell housing that is the only thing I see different. Will the one from the 2000 work?

Thanks in advance...........

I'd say the one on the right came out of a V6 not a V8. The one on the left is devinitely the V8. you can tell from the 300 bellhousing bolts it has.

The one on the right is definitely a V6 transmission. It looks pretty rough, you were going to put that in your car? You need to make sure your replacement is from a 2000-2002 LS, as the 2003-2006 will be different. As you have found, it also has to be out of a V8. The easy indicator is the torque converter. The V8 torque converter has eight studs and an adapter plate as you can see in yours; the V6 is a four stud converter.

Here is the pan off of the tranny. Fluid was a little darn but not burnt with no metal shavings anywhere so I'm doing the rebuild following the thread posted by Mikeswood. Parts should be here Monday so lets see how it goes.

OK dealship venting right now. So I called the dealership about the 4-3 pre stroke valve spring which is my issue and they told me 76.39 and they didn't even have it in stock. I called Transtar Industries of Norfolk and they had it in stock for 13.78. Granted its more than what it would have cost online but its local and they had all the other parts needed also. DEALERSHIPS SUCK!!!!!!!!!

That's just how dealerships work. If you can find an acceptable quality aftermarket part then that is usually the better option. The dealership is usually the better option on reman parts, or at least the OEM aftermarket brand I.E. 'Motorcraft' for Ford, etc.

Wow that's a crazy price for that spring.

Sonnax sells it for around 5 bucks I think.
