Hello group:
I'm trying to install my ipod into my 2004 LS. Searches have shown that I need the PIE installer. Searching has turned up two different PIE units for my vehicle, one needing a 16/24 pin connector and the other a 20 pin connector. Does anyone know which one I need based on their own experiences? Here are my particulars:
2004 LS
SAT button but no SAT installed
In dash cd changer
No RSE
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Mark

You will need to take out the stock head unit and check the connectors on the back to be certain. If you email PIE with that information, they will tell you exactly which adapter model you need.

Onefresh: Thanks for the links. I will call Karen when I'm ready to make the jump.
What I've learned so far:
The FRD03-aux/s will allow me to play my ipod through my stereo going through my headphone jack to the rca plugs. This is the cheapest way to go at $55. Downside is no charging and no control of the ipod through the radio control.
The FRD03-pod/s gives me charging and control through the radio. This comes at a price though of $140.
I just have to decide if those benefits are worth the price for me.
Thanks for all the advice!

Not worth it to me. You can get a 12V to USB plug for $1 and just use a USB cable if you need to charge.

For 100 more than the 140 you can get a whole new headunit with full iPod control.

are you even paying attention? the whole point of this is not to charge the ipod, but to have the ipod music play through the factory sound system.

A $1 part is not going to do the job.

also good thing to note is that a lot of those super cheap adapter you find online are cheap Chinese knockoffs that have a high failure rate. if your $1 voltage regulator is goes defective, you may be replacing a $200-$400 ipod.

carefully choose where you want to cut cost.

Yes, I am paying perfect attention. Apparently you are not.

To which I responded with:

Granted, he won't have iPod control by the factory stereo through this means, but he needs to decide if that's worth the extra $85.

Thanks for being a dick.

I dont remember what I paid for mine but it was definitely worth it!

Update

I spent the last six months looking for the P.I.E. unit with no luck. Everyone is sold out and backordered so I decided to go a different route. I went with the isimple tranzit that hardwires into the antennae and allows me to just plug in through the 3.5 output on my ipod. This unit also gave me the option of using my old XM MyFi radio so I dug it out of my old electronics box and hooked it up. XM/Sirius gave me a good deal on reactivation. $40 for six months.
RANT ALERT!!
What the hell has happened to XM radio? They have added so many stations and compressed the signal so much that I can barely listen to it. The last time I had sat radio like 5 years ago, it wasn't too good but I could listen to it. I can't believe people pay for this crap. It sounds ok streaming on my computer, but in my car it's awful. My ipod sounds like high fidelity compared to this. I will not be renewing my subscription.
Anyhoo, I do like the setup now with my ipod and recommend it to anyone who is looking for an ipod solution.

Interesting, I have XM and have no issues with the quality.

REALLY? I got my FRDN-AUX/S from AncoAuto in a couple of days (http://ancoauto.com/oscommerce/product_info.php?cPath=26_56&products_id=205 & http://ancoauto.com/oscommerce/product_info.php?cPath=26_57&products_id=107).

I dumped Sirius as I got sick and tired of the "DJs" talking over the music, commercials (they call them public service announcements) and it was going to cost over $300 per year in both cars. Then there were the constant drop-outs! Instead, I bought an iPod and downloaded all my CDs onto it. One thing I liked about Sirius was the old radio shows; pre-TV. I just found the ones I liked on the interweb and downloaded them too! I am MUCH happier!! Now if they would just quit calling me

Maybe I'm the one one who likes XM... I love listening to all the sports channels when I'm in the car, its literally the only thing I listen to.

Yeah, I was looking for the FRD-pod/s unit as my original intention was to only hook up my ipod and stash it in the glove box. Adding the XM was an afterthought.
My problem with XM isn't an install or equipment issue. It's all about compression. Some stations are better than others. I noticed that on King Howards station, the sound quality is about what I remembered from before. Most of the others sound like I'm underwater.
