I have 2005 LS V8 Sport. I searched around but didn't find much so hopefully I can get some help. Basically what it comes down to is my wife spilled some juice (lemon blend) and it got in between the black plastic that the shifter slides back and forth on. The issue is that she didn't tell me until hours later, thus the juice had plenty of time to dry and now prevents me from shifting into SST mode without literally having to brute force it over. Please tell me this is a simple fix..... I didn't find much info on how to take apart a 2005 console/shifter. I also figured that I can do the reverse sst mod as well but didn't find much info on how to do the mod on an 2005. Thanks, in advance!

All the Gen2s are the same. What applies to one applies to all.

I understand that but all of the results that I come up with are for the Gen1's. So how do I take apart the Gen2 shifter so that I can clean the dried up sticky juice and be able to shift normally again. And is the SST mod the same on the Gen2's as it is on the Gen1's?

Thanks Hawk. Unfortunately, the link for the console is a dead link. I need to know how to take the shifter off so that I can get to the console to clean it. I don't see any screws or anything to take the leather handle off of the shaft.

Push the chrome ring and sleeve under it down, you will see two screws, remove screws, then pull shifter straight up, it may take some force.

But as far as the lemon juice issue, hit it with a little all purpose cleaner, let it dwell for a couple minutes to break it up, then blot it up with a clean microfiber towel. Move the shifter between auto and SST to make sure you hit as much of the area as you can. Grab some q tips to really get it clean. Then blow it out with an air compressor or just a can of compressed air for cleaning electronics to remove any of the remaining all purpose cleaner.

Need a shifter/shaft cover

I managed to get the shifter handle off and I might have gave myself a black eye! It was on there pretty tight and when it did break loose, I ended up hitting myself in the face. The console on the GenII is very simple to take apart. I cleaned everything up and glued together the round disc that the shaft sticks through.....well that didn't hold up very long and broke apart. Does anyone have the shifter cover available or does anyone have an idea how much it will cost to order from the dealer? I don't understand why they didn't just put some type of leather boot cover instead of what is in place now, just for instances like this, when juice spills over into it.

Also, I tried to do the reverse SST mod at the wire harness. I got the harness loose and popped up the little white clip that holds all the wires in place. I could not for the life of me, get any of the pins to pop loose so that I could reverse the wires. I've tried very tiny screw drivers and picks. I guess i'm confused as to where to stick the pick in to unlock the clip....Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. If I did it over again I would just cut the 4 wires, switch them, and splice.
