Need help please...GEN II Window question

Hey all! I've used the search function but don't think this is related to what I found so please try not to flame me :)

Basically what it comes down to is that I parked in a parking lot to go into the store and went to roll both front windows up. Drivers side went up fine but the front passenger side did not. It made a loud POP sound and would not come up. If I hit the auto up or auto down, I can hear what I guess are the rails/tracks raising up and down; this makes me think it is not the infamous regulator problem. Can someone please help? The car is a 2005 LS8 with 22k miles on it. I really need to get the window up as it's currently raining. I'm going to check my warranty to see if it is covered as well. Also, I had noticed over the past few weeks, a rattle sound while the window is down and the passenger door would get shut.

It's the regulator. If you ever pulled one apart, you'd understand why we say this.
 
I ripped it apart yesterday and discovered that the cable was off track and that one of the WHITE plastic pieces that anchors to the bottom of the window busted into pieces. So I'm assuming that these can't be replaced and that I have to buy the entire regulator unit? I used an old pipe to prop the window up and then used zip ties to keep the window in place until I figure out what to do here.

For the rear doors only you can buy the long piece that has the cables on it which includes the white bracket. The regulator can be removed from that unit. It should around 50-60 bucks for the piece. I had to replace both rear ones on my 06 this past winter. If you can geth the door apart as far as you did it should not be a hard process for you to fix...

I spoke with the stealership, and he says the brackets come with the regulator and motor...so yes I see now why everyone is saying it's the regulator that is the problem even though the motor and all is good. They quoted me $106.08 but won't order it until I come in and pay for it....I guess I'll be riding with the AC for a while....

He'll hook you up with the parts at a decent price. And yes, when everyone talks about the regulators on a regular basis on this site that is the very problem we are all referring to. The good news is you will have the practice to replace the drivers side in a few months when it dies. Its death will be proceded by the sound of loose plastic parts in the door when you close it.
 
I need some quick help all. I want to order the regulator to finally fix my passenger window. I have been under the assumption that the motor and regulator were a single unit which attaches to the brackets and pulley system but apparently the bracket and pulleys are the regulator? If so, how easy is it to detach the motor from the bracket and mount to the new regulator(bracket/pulleys)? The lowest price I've found locally is $94.00 and found a site online which sells it for $54.00 (http://www.tascaparts.com). I just need to know that I'm ordering the correct thing. I know the motor is good as I could hear it running when i tried to roll the window and the clips made a loud ass POP and broke apart.

Your link doesn't go to the part that you selected, and I'm too lazy to try and hunt down the $54 part you are talking about. If you post the specific part, then I can probably verify if it is all you need.

Yes, of course the brackets and pulleys and wire cables and take-up spool and gear box are all part of the regulator assembly.

Joe,

they don't show the part on the site; have to call and have them look up the part. He says that the motor is not included and that I would need to remove the motor from the old one and put on the new one. The guy at the dealership here said the same thing; he warned that it is a non-returnable item.
 
Well I've found out that the GEN2's do not include the motor with the pulley assembly; only the GEN1's. Can someone who has done this on a GEN2 tell me if this is still an easy task or should I let the dealer do it? Dealer charges $90 per hour. Is there a certain position on the cable that the motor needs to be set in order to roll up/down at the same rate as the rest of the windows? I really want to order this today....thanks.

I don't think that you are understanding what is the motor and what is the regulator. Unfortunately, I don't have any good (clear) diagrams of it.
The motor mounts to a gearbox that has the take-up spool. This is the box that the wire cables come out of it. I think that you are calling this whole assembly the motor, it's not. The cables come pre-attached to the regulator assembly, there's no way to move them.

The motor is just the metal can on the side of this assembly.

Here is a procedure that you will need after you get it back together.

Joe I understand what the motor is and the dealer is saying that this is not included. I would ony get the pulley system and have to mount the old motor to the new pulley system. I had 3 local dealers tell me this and I found an old thread where another member with a gen 2 said that the motor is not included like it is with the gen 1.

Yes, and I am saying that the motor mounts to what you are calling the "pulley system." There's no choice of location.

Thanks for the help and the link for the procedure after installing the new regulator. I ordered from www.tascaparts.com as it was $54.00+10.00 shipping from Rhode Island via ground (does not include the motor). I need to look at the old regulator and see if the motor is mounted with screws or rivets. Sorry about the confusion but when I hear the word regulator, I picture it as an electrical part of the motor (voltage regulator) and not something mechanical. The part number from Ford is 23208 and for the tascaparts.com site it is 4W4Z5423208AA

I did my drivers side myself, after the cable balled up into one of the plastic guides.
It was just over $100, and took me 2 hours total.
The fun part is making sure the up is all the way up, and the down is all the way down...
 
Something is not right!!!

I did the install last night. Swapping the motor over to the new window regulator was very simple. The problem I'm having is that the window will not roll completely down; rolls about 90% down and when I roll it up, it rolls to the top and bounces back down; I have to roll it up about 2 or 3 times while holding the button to make it stay up. Do I need to tear this all apart again and run the motor while it is not connected to the regulator? I'm completely lost at this point and could really use some help :confused: ...Thanks.

Do you mean that it won't go all the way down on auto or that it won't go all the way down even if you hold the switch down the whole time? If it's the latter, then you have a mechanical problem you need to resolve. If it's the former, then the procedure that I posted earlier will correct both issues.

Joe,

It will not roll all the way down on Auto only 90% down. Even if I hold the switch down the whole time. If I roll it up on Auto, the bounce-back feature activates when it hits the top and it begins to roll back down. What i'm thinking is that I should have connected the motor up first before mounting it to the regulator and hit the down button until the motor stopped. Reason I say this is because when it initially broke, I immedietly rolled the window back up and left it in that position. The new regulator was shipped with the window brackets in the lowered position. If that is not the case and it does not matter, then what am I doing wrong? I tried the procedure that you posted but it also indicates that I need some type of diagnostic tool...
