Need Help Install Auto-dimming mirror

Hey guys, I missed out on the Ebay LS mirror that was for sale. But I did buy a Auto-dimming mirror with Compus and Temp. The instructions said it also has a UV sensor but didn't come with that part.

I don't care for the Temp, cause the LS aleady has that build in, I'm having a problem with hooking up the wiring. I wasn't able to take the A-piler off, so I din't do anything but take the OEM mirror off (pita) and install the new one. Can anyone help guide me through this? I don't think my car has the wiring in the ceiling already. Thanks in advance!
 
'k, I looked at the manuals, I guess I have to run the wiring to the fuse box in the trunk? connecting it to the ignition wire? I don't know.
 
It is probably just an ignition wire and a ground that need connected. If this is so, then I would wire it into the sunroof or radio, because these turn on and off with the ignition and you would not need to wire it into the trunk...

just fyi, phone wire works well for things like this because of the extremely small current draw.
 
Thanks, How about the lights that are right there in the overhead? Could I just splice the wires there? 1 goes to a fused ignition wire, 2nd goes to the ground, and 3rd goes to constant pwr souce.
 
Those lights may work as a power source...I am not sure if there is an ignition wire going to them though. ( I don't know what the purpose of an ignition wire would be; the lights can be turned on and off whether the key is on or not.)
 
yes, their the ones, above the rear view mirror, you push a button to turn them on and off, next to the sunroof controls. I just went out to look, and it seem like those wires are hard to get to without pulling down the panel.

I'm just guessing, but it may be related to the system that kills the lights after 45 minutes to keep you from draining the battery by mistake.
 
I would not use the lead from the overhead map lights. In my car, they are able to turn on even when the ignition is turned off. if you hook up the mirror to a constantly "hot" wire and leave the mirror turned "on", it will drain your battery. After you hook-it up, test your installation by leaving the mirror "on" then make sure it goes "off" when you turn off the ignition [there should be a small LED indicator on the mirror to show "on/off"].

How many wires are coming from the mirror and what are the colors ?
 
There are 2 sets, one for the temp sensor, the other set has 3 wires, 1 goes to a fused ignition wire, 2nd goes to the ground, and 3rd goes to constant pwr source. Will I have to run the wires to the trunk? My head liner has a notch by the overhead lights where there might have been a place to install the dimming mirror wiring if my car was going to be something other than base model.

I wouldn't run wire all the way into the trunk. First get a meter with settings for 12v and continuity. Then use it to check the wires already in the nearby headliner. Ground should be easy to find or simply drill a small hole in the frame work and use a screw to secure the ground wire.

You could probably use one of the map light feeds for constant power. As far as the ignition wire, you could probably find one in the fuse box or (if all else fails) tap into the wire from the headlight switch - that's what i did on my other car. I just leave the mirror turned "on" and hooked the mirror's ignition wire to the wire going OUT of the headlight switch TO FEED the headlights. Now when I turn the headlights "on", the mirror also comes "on" by itself with the headlights :) .
 
Thanks for the tip. I'll have to wait out the deep frezee and try to get this done another day. Mind if I call on you at a later date for Tips?
