I am fresh out of college and looking for a lincoln LS sport black v8, I have been looking all the way back to 2000, what is the difference in body and overall in the 2000-2002 and 203 and up. Also what is so great about the lse. I do not want to spend alot of money for now but I would like to know what years are better any recalls and the difference between all these. Also if anyone has one for sale.

Your best bet might be an 02 or a 04+, those years usually came problem free. The LSE just came with a appearance package, and is somewhat rare. If your not speed crazy, get a v-6, my 02 v6 has not given me any trouble, other than some minor things.

On an 03+, you do not really need any aftermarket performance options to match the pre 03 with all the mods added. The 03+ starts out with 280HP so you are already ahead of the older ones from the start. You can add a CAI and Xcal2 tuner, but I think that is about it for performance mods that actually help much on the 03+. The other guys on here that have way more LS experience can advise on that. I personally like the looks of the 03+ over the older ones, inside and out, but then I am biased. :)

Somebody else has already answered about the differences in hp among the model years. Use some of the websites to check the specs yourself. You'll also find some differences in interior trim and some minor differences in the way the interior console is laid out between the 02s and 03/04 models, and the rear lights were redesigned in the 04, I think. If you want the exterior keypad for keypad entry to the car - a great feature, you can never be locked out - then you have to get 03+. For some strange reason, I don't see many 03s on the market right now, and dealers aren't pricing them down the way they ought to, so you may find as good or better deal on an 04, and definitely ought to be able to find very good price on 02.

This is a great list and very helpful...I did refer to it several times while looking for my car. I ended up buying an 04; after driving both a 2002 and a 2004 there wasn't a question. I paid $20K (NADA retail was $26K) for a V8 Sport with just under 21K miles. It's well optioned heated/cooled seats, moonroof, etc. the funny thing is that mine is certainly an 04 and it does have moisture sensing wipers, even though Ken's list says they were deleted.

Like Pedaltothemetalgirl said, I think that the 04s are a real sweet spot right now. For price/miles/warranty/updates it is hard to beat.

BTW Ken thanks, like I said the list is very helpful...maybe it should go in the tech articles section?

You could find a 2000 that has had all the bugs worked out of it too. My wife might be selling hers to get a minivan  . It is not a sport model and not black, so it might not work for you, but whoever gets her car will have one that has had the repair work done, and that is what you want. They all break and in all the same places, pretty much. I have seen Gray's LS and it is VERY VERY nice too!!!! Don't let the year sway you. Get the history.

Good luck,
Don

just puchased 02 lsv8 10,177 miles depnds how pickey you i know where are some if live close let me hear from you St. Louis Mo.

A close family friend is a wholesale buyer for all the Boucher dealers around lower wisconsin and has seen and driven many cars. Stay away from 2000, even if it has the bugs fixed out there is a bigger chance of something going wrong. I myself went with a 2001 with 60k miles and have had not one problem mechanically except for the window regulator. I'm not saying 2000 is a bad year but its the first year the car was produced and like any first year model they are bound to have problems. To be safe I'd say 2001+ is your best bet.

I unfortunately must sell mine since my girlfriend and I are breaking up. It is an '04 LSV8 in black with grey interior. Looks very nice, perfect condition. 25K miles on it, still 2 years left on the factory bumper to bumper warranty.
Only problem is I am in eugene, Oregon. I want $26,000 for it.
There is some info on the autotrader.com website, and a picture if you are interested

I saw a used 2002 LSE for sale in Lemont,IL on McCarthy Rd. It is a private party sale and look clean. I would have bought it but I have an 02 LS V8 Sport and I don't think the wife would be to please if I came home with another one. The asking price was $19,800. It might be listed online.
