need help: first speding ticket

I was pulled over last night for what hte state trooper claimed was 81 in a 65. I only think i was doing about 75 at the most. Being as i am only 17 and this is my first ticket i have to go to court. Is there anytihng that i should know about going to court? or what is going to happen at court? Is there any way to get out of hte ticket?

The thing is was pulled over for the first time just 5 minutes before that for illegal tint and going through a yellow light. The town officer let me go with a warning. then I got onto the highway and was the pulled over once again. It just wasnt my day. If anyone has any advice its greatly appreciated.

Any the final thing is: What is a good radar detector?

1) Accept that you drive dumb...two stops in 10 minutes?
2) Tell the court the truth...you were speeding
3) The court may give an option of admitting guilt, paying fine but avoiding points
4) Radar detector...everyone will have their opinions. For 99.9% of driving the $69 Walmart detector will do the same as the $500 detector. As long as it has K and extended KA it will do its job. Those are the two bands that cops use, i wouldnt worry to much about laser. I have been using the same Uniden radar detector for 13 years and it still does its job so dont let people sell you on alot of hype regarding this type or that type. Personally i hate the tones on the Whistler and Bell radars.
 
There isn't all that much you can do being under the age of 18. I know that in Ohio the law is that if you are under 18 you can't waive the ticket and 99% of the time you are going to have to pay the ticket. Also every time you get pulled over it gets logged and seeing how you got pulled over 10 minutes before that.....well what do you think the judge is going to think about that??

As far as Fla02LS saying that it doesn't matter what kind of radar detector you have.....well I have a totally different view on that. If an officer is using laser, it doesn't matter what kind of radar/laser detector you have, if you are speeding you are getting the ticket. (unless of course he is feeling generous) You can try to fight it but is it really worth the time??

see if you can take the 40 dollar class to keep it off your record. check into this before you go to court, may save you some money

Yep. Theres a long list of acronyms like NCIC, SCMODS, CAFE. Those are criminal databases for stolen vehicles, missing persons, wanted felons, etc. Not police logging in a yellow light runner. Trust me...it aint happening.
 
ya i've accepted that i drive dumb. If the first stop was just a warning and the guy let me go does it still go onto the computer as that i got stopped?
Does anyone know how i can get a doctor's note that i need the tint so i can get a state ssantioned stcker? i cant rive with te glare of the mirors, but i doubt that that will warrant geting a docotrs note... Where can i find out about that class?
 
i tried the note from a doctor thing, didnt work. the judge said that if sunglasses cant help your eyes then the dmv will re-assess your ability to drive a car. also sunlight comes in through the windshield at certain times, so you would need it tinted as well to be consistent about your eye problem. some people think that a skin issue would be a better argument but they will have the same answer for that as well. you would need to have your windshield tinted too. just to let you know i had my windshield tinted for about two years and was pulled over about 15 times! it got tiring so i pulled it off.
 
i dont know about california, but in rohde island they do issue stickers that allow the car to be tinted. I jsut have to figure out what the symptoms are that warrant recieving a sticker...

I'll have to disagree here on type vs type. I have a Cobra (9600 I think) in my truck (about $100) but it doesn't have near the range as the Bel Pro RX65 that is in my LS. I dunno, maybe Uniden is better than Cobra. I've tested my Bel against the speed boxes that are setup on the highway. I pick it up from a little under 5 miles and it is behind a hill and curve. The Bel also keeps reading it for about 2 miles once I pass it. The Bels go for about $200 on ebay. It is basically the same as the escort passport 8500 X50. But with this guys luck I would recommend just slowing down. I will agree that most driving will get by with the $100 Wal-Mart detector.
 
Don't know if they input everytime u get pulled over or not.

Bout 3 weeks ago I was pulled over 3 times in one day in to different cities,
for my back driver light being broken,

i was given a warning from all 3 cause I told them I was in process of getting it fixed and not one of the cops mentioned the fact that they knew anything bout the prior pullovers the same day.

but i also know that they run ur tags everytime to look for, warrants,, reg etc... so their has to be some kinda record even if u get away wih a warning.
 
One more time...there is no record keeping of traffic stops like your talking about. The databases you are speaking of are a combination of your DMV info...license #, registered owners, VIN #, address listed, etc. They are there for info verification, not writing down notes. I listed once before the process involving all the steps and such. Then there are criminal database's regarding warrents and such. Here in Florida you can have two counties side by side that use different systems. The only common point is access to NCIC and a few others. There is no such recording of warnings.
 
Did the same cop who pulled you over for the tint give you the speeding ticket? Or was it a different cop?

Like I said before.....In Ohio, every time you run a plate it goes into a database of when you ran the plate and pulled that particular car over. After you let the car go, if thats what you decide to do, you inform dispatch and let them know if you let the person go, gave a written/verbal warning, or issued the citation. Once you relay that info to them, they are supposed to log it into the database. They say its for saftey reasons, but I don't necessarily agree with that. However, it does go into a database. Weather or not they do it like that in your state, thats how it is in Ohio. Ohio uses the same LEADS system, every department is provided their equiptment by the OSP.

I think someone has told you some stories. I dont see LEO procedures being that different in Ohio than Florida. Running a plate and making a traffic stop are two different things. The reason for contacting dispatch is for the officers safety and no not all cops do it. Nothing is added to a LEADS system or NCIC type system without thorough investigation. A traffic stop is NOT the type of info entered into those systems. There are to types of entries, administrative and inquiry. Its not like a windows log where you just type whatever in. One thing you are close to being correct on is that each user (each officer) is accountable for the info they access. That has nothing to do with documenting traffic stops. A little paranoid are ya.
 
I can only speak about MA...

When you run a license plate through the RMV, it is noted for 30-60 days... so if that plate is run again, during that time frame, it will indicated what day, time, and which terminal/department made the querry.

When you receive a citation, it counts against your driver's history which is there until the end of time regardless of whether you are found responsible or not. Not sure on written warnings, the first one doesn't count as points against your license.

If the first officer called in the traffic stop, that PD may/may not have a record of it... some PD's require log entries for traffic stops, others don't. Radio communications are likely recorded so there's an audio recording of the radio traffic at least.

But if one department stops a car and five minutes later seperate jurisdiction stops the same car, the only link between the two is the RMV prompt which says (in MA) "Matching Recent Querries" All the second officer would know is that the plate was just run and not likely the outcome unless one dispatch center called the other to find out.

Thats good input. My whole point is that there is nothing that is specific like he was stating. All inquires are logged, but that isnt viewable by an individual user. And its not a system that is "updated" or "entered" or whatever like he was saying on a stop by stop basis.

no, first time was a town cop who gave a warning, second time was a state trooper who issued the ticket

Troopers are almost never going to give you a break. Thats their main purpose....write tickets.
 
i know in jersey troopers give a lot of breaks....i've heard more stories of people getting breaks then actually getting tickets from troopers

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers are like that, too. That's one of the reasons the tickets they do write normally stick.
 
Your best radar detector is the "white rabbit" and its free. You should stay within 10 mph of the speedlimit - if that is close to the flow of traffic. Once someone passes you, let them go for about a quarter mile - then follow. When you see their brake lights, slow down.

As far as fighting the ticket, if your part of the general workforce, which means we're poor, then just eat it. Classes will help with the points though, you can find them in the yellow pages under driving schools, usually taken by people with DUI and Reckless Driving records or young people to get a better insurance rate.

And Shok Her, I think you're getting pulled over for the license plate. :D I've had tinted windows for several months now, with no problem, but I also have a black car, tint can be darker in FL than any other state, and I roll down the windows when I see a police car.

i dont roll them down, lazy i guess. in california there is no tint allowed on the driver or passenger window let alone the windshield. if i rolled them down it would make the windshield tint more noticeable to the cop. also i still have the side tint, just removed the tint on the windshield. wow im lazy and hard-headed!:D good thing i can get my tickets signed off or i would be one poor mofo.
