Need assistance with 71 Caddy Eldorado

My very cool Bro-in-law just gave us a 75% cherry 71 ragtop. It is a driver but I have a problem. The driver doorlock assy is in the "latch" position but the door is open. Anyone know how to unlatch the assy so I can close the door? I have many hours of fiddling with this beauty ahead of me and don't mind doing the drop top flop till I get the doors repaired. Thank you!

Maybe you can fix it at the doorlatch , otherwise you'll need to take off the inside doortrim to access the lock mechaniesem.

Doesn't the lock work if you use the key?
